About this file

This is a Questions and Answers document for a federal contract opportunity (FA489726QA019) regarding Vertical Lift Storage systems.

The document addresses three key clarifications regarding specifications for Item 2.1.16 and Item 2.1.17. For Item 2.1.16, the government approved a deviation allowing tray dimensions of 96.46 inches in width with 3-inch wall heights instead of the originally specified 98-99 inches width and 4-5 inch wall heights. However, the government rejected the use of non-slotted trays, requiring that slotted trays be maintained to prevent cross-contamination of similar-looking parts during tray movement and ensure operators pull the exact specification needed for maintenance tasks. For Item 2.1.17, the government approved an alternative seismic baseplate design and size different from the specified 18-inch by 18-inch baseplates, provided the alternative design meets structural seismic requirements based on geographic zone considerations.

Question and Answers Vertical Lift Storage

FA489726QA019

Question 1: Item 2.1.16 requests trays measuring 98 to 99 inches in width and featuring tray walls with a height of 4-5 inches. Is a tray width of 96.46” acceptable with a wall height of 3”?

Answer 1: This deviation is acceptable.

Question 2: Item 2.1.16 requests slotted trays. Since no divider kits are being requested is a non-slotted tray be acceptable?

Answer 2: No, Unrestrained items will mix during tray movement, leading to cross-contamination of similar-looking parts. Sub-dividers lock into slots, creating rigid, enclosed compartments that physically isolate each asset. Slots allow dividers to integrate directly into the tray infrastructure, eliminating the need for unsecured secondary containers. Strict physical separation guarantees the operator pulls the exact specification required for the maintenance task.

Question 3: Item 2.1.17 requests 18-inch by 18-inch seismic baseplates to be added for structural integrity and stability. We have reviewed this through our engineering department and based on geographic zone baseplates with the size of 18” x 18” are not necessary. Is it acceptable to supply a different design and size of base plate that will meet the structural needs for seismic?

Answer 3: This deviation is acceptable.
