Questions and Answers 2

Q1. Are you able to extend that response date in the interest of getting more competitive bids? For our industry, this is a large project, and it requires some real thought to estimate the time and price out materials and equipment involved.

A1. Due to the schedule for end of year there is not room for an extension.

Q2. Are you able to supply some photos of the work area, particularly the undersides of the sunshades? We would need to know how much of the existing hardware is reusable versus in need of replacement. This amounts to cost savings (both materials and time) if there is already cable anchors in place to thread new cable through.

A2. The requirement is for complete removal of existing bird netting and installation of new bird netting.

Q3. Are there any standards for materials or engineering? Examples: 305 Stainless steel cable at a minimum, minimum cable thickness, support cables every X number of feet.

A3. The only requirements, is for the netting to withstand 50 knot winds and have a 5 year warranty. Any other standards will be in accordance with the commercial standards to provide the above refrenced requirements.

Q4. Other than lighting, are there any other items under the canopies that either have to be encased by the netting or specifically excluded? Fire sprinkler systems? Mechanical equipment? (Again, photos would help that.)

A4. The only other exclusion would be the fall protection line.

Q5. Are there any other technical requirements on which bids will be evaluated or is this a strict low-number situation?

A5. This requirement will be evaluated on price.

Q6. Are any engineering documents (shop drawings, submittals) needed?

A6. No.

Q7. Is any cleaning required?

A7. Cleaning will be to remove FOD after the removal of the netting and installation complete.

Q8. Is there a secure storage area on base available for material storage?

A8. The government will be able to provide space in a hangar to store equipment/materials for the duration of the contract. The hangar would have active duty individuals around it 24 hours a day during the week and would be locked and secured on the weekends, provided weekend duty is not in. If weekend duty was to come in and the hangar was unlocked, there would be people around just like it would be during the week.
