Text version

E-3 Air Battle Manager (ABM): an E-3G officer crew member with an AFSC of 13B that can execute Battle Management, Command and Control (BMC2) duties in one or all of the following positions:

ABM: An E-3G crew member responsible for tactical fluid control (TFC) and force accountability of aircraft inside of an assigned area of responsibility (AOR) to include Offensive and Defensive Counter Air (OCA/DCA), Strike, Close Air Support, Dynamic Targeting, Aerial Refueling, and Personnel Recovery operations. Other responsibilities include the detection and identification of air and surface adversarial assets as well as integration and information sharing with other allied joint assets. ABMs are able to transfer and optimize the active sensors and are able to use the passive sensors to identify air and ground emitters.

Section Lead (SL): An experienced ABM responsible for supervising a Battle Management Team (BMT). A BMT can consist of one or more ABMs and MSOs to execute specialized BMC2 missions within an AOR (i.e. OCA, lane defense, ELINT operations and coordination). Responsibilities of an SL can include supervising TFC, Passive and Active sensor troubleshooting, Datalink troubleshooting and communications planning and coordination.

Section Lead in Command (SLiC): An ABM SL who is primarily responsible for overall E-3G mission execution and safety of the E-3G as well as other High Value Air Assets from air and surface threats. The SLiC is responsible for the communication with the CAOC, CRC or HHQ for any tasking that the E-3G can execute. Other responsibilities include the supervision of the BMTs as well as the E-3G technicians and a focal point for the flight crew in emergency situations internal to the E-3G.

E-3 Mission System Operator (MSO): an E-3G enlisted crew member with an AFSC of 1A3 that can interface with the mission systems to be able to Detect, Track and Identify airborne or surface tracks of interest. MSOs work with the ABMs as part of a Battle Management Team to reduce workload and provide the ABM with any required support for the ABM to manage the AOR.

Active sensor Operator (ASO): This is an MSO certification where the responsibilities include transferring both the Radar and IFF systems to MSO control, operational checks, and optimization for mission use. This certification also includes datalink operation training.

Datalinks: This is an ABM and MSO certification where the responsibilities include initialization and setup for operational use for both Link 11 and Link 16 datalinks aboard the E-3G.
