GENERAL INFORMATION

The Style Guide is used to coordinate the format for all final deliverables. The contractor must coordinate their proposed style with the site Government Subject Matter Experts (GSMEs) to ensure all applicable areas are included, and the style is acceptable. The Style Guide will be used by the GSME’s to ensure all areas are delivered and will provide some continuity between personnel. The Style Guide will provide the contractor with a known acceptable standard. The contractor will develop all courseware using the current updated model of ISD as defined in AFM 36-2234 and AFH 36-2235. Any changes in style must be pre-coordinated and approved with the GSME’s and incorporated in to the guide. The Style Guide shall consist of the following:

GOVERNMENT REQUIREMENTS

The government GSME’s will provide all specific requirements for each deliverable. Each deliverable will have the government’s expectations and constraints listed. This will address any format corrections to ensure errors are not repeated.

Distribution and Deadline for the Deliverables. The government shall have at least three defined periods for review, acceptance/rejection and delivery. Initial government review of a product shall be scheduled for 14 ACC-business days, intermediate review shall be 3 ACC-business days and final review for delivery shall be 2 ACC-business days. An “ACC business day” is a normal workday, excluding weekends, holidays, command directed family days, etc. Shorter review periods may be specified in individual product attachments. Corrections may be submitted at any time during the review periods. The deadline to complete corrections will be according to their scope, but will be within (five) ACC-business days of the Government’s feedback. Any changes must be coordinated and approved by the government.

A7.3 Format. Will comply with existing format; subject to the approval of the appropriate Courseware SME.

A7.4 Content. The study guide will include the following:

A7.4.1 There are four essential parts to the lesson study guide, along with three more that may be included if needed to enhance training. The four essentials and their functions are:

A7.4.1.1 Front Matter. The front matter of a Lesson Study Guide will include the following:

· Cover

· Introduction: This will be as described above for the lesson plan, but the one for the lesson study guide will usually include more information to the student about how to use the document.

· Change Record

· References: A list of the references used to develop the information and/or needed by the student to complete the lesson.

· Hazard Awareness Notice (As required by safety precautions for the block)

· Table of Contents (if size of document warrants one)

· Definitions: This is a list of words required to clarify the document. For large blocks of instruction or for courses where definitions of terms are included in objectives, this may provide cross-references to the document itself of where the definitions may be found.

A7.4.1.2 Information Sheet. This provides the student with additional, amplifying or background information essential to the student but not contained in technical manuals or other official documentation. It will include the following:

· Title and Identification Number: Lesson title and designator as described above.

· Objectives: The objectives are provided at the beginning of each lesson to clearly communicate to the students what is expected of them.

· Introduction: A narrative statement describing the purpose/intent of the information (lesson). In the lesson study guide, this should be a “roadmap” to guide the student through the lesson. A lesson outline helps the student see the organization of the lesson and reminds him/her of the main points.

· Information: Material designed to aid the student in comprehending the instructional topic and not contained in the technical manuals or other official documentation. If students need to read such documents, they will be assigned as reading assignments within the text as they occur. These will be placed in text boxes created by reducing the right and left margins by .5 inch and placing paragraph borders (shadow type) around the reading assignment (as in this document). Illustrations and tables may be integrated into the information text. Illustrations used only within the Information Sheet to support a topic are not Diagram Sheets and don’t need to be formatted as such. Copies of illustrative material used in the classroom and provided for student use, on the other hand, will be handled as Diagram Sheets. All illustrations will be given a “figure number” and listed in the List of Illustrations in the Front Matter. The figure number will be in the format lesson number-sequential figure number (e.g., the third figure in Lesson 5 would be given figure number 5-3). All tables will be given a “table number” and listed in the List of Tables in the front matter. The table number will be formatted in the same way as figure numbers. For single lesson study guides, lesson numbers in the figure and table numbers are obviously redundant and simple sequential numbering is sufficient.

A7.4.1.3 Assignment Sheet. This identifies required reading material and provides questions on the reading (for practice). It will include:

· Title and Identification Number (as described above).

· Objectives: A list of the learning objectives copied directly from the lesson plan.

· Assignments: A list of the study assignments.

· Study Questions: Practice questions should ensure complete coverage of the objective learning tasks for the student. Lesson study guides may or may not include answers for self-study, as determined by the course manager. As a minimum, the answers must be provided in Part 3 of the lesson plan.

A7.4.1.4 Outline Sheet. This provides the student an outline of the lesson’s teaching points to allow him/her to follow the progress of a topic, take notes as desired and retain information for future reference. While required for standard blocks and lessons, this is optional for continuation training lessons since these documents are normally not expendable and including an outline sheet would encourage students to write in the training guide, making it useless for the next student. (Another option is to include the thumbnails from Lesson Plan Part 4 in place of the outline, with lines next to each slide for students to take notes.) It will include the following:

· Title and Identification Number (as described above).

· Introduction: Narrative statements concerning the purpose/intent of the outline.

· Lesson Outline: Outline of the topic content with space for notes.

A7.4.1.5 In addition to these essential elements, the following three elements may be included if required to cover the topic:

· Diagram Sheet. This provides illustrative material that depicts chalkboard sketches, instructional media material or other diagrams/schematics used in the classroom and deemed important to the student. The material will include a title and identification number.

· Job Sheet. The Job Sheet supports practice of performance objectives. It directs the student to use technical documentation and other tools in the step-by-step performance of tasks or functions required by the job. It will include the following:

· Title and Identification Number (as described above).

· Objectives (as described above).

· Introduction: Narrative statements concerning the purpose/intent of the Job Sheet.

· Equipment: List of all equipment required to accomplish the job.

· References: List of all reference documentation required to perform the task or function.

· Job Steps: List of procedures for performing the task or function (without duplicating data in the technical manual).

· Self-test Questions: If decision-making is required for the task/function, exercises similar to those required in the operational environment or questions about supporting knowledge may be provided.

· Problem Sheet. This provides the student practical problems requiring analysis and decision-making similar to those problems that may occur in the operational environment. It will include:

· Title and Identification Number (as described above).

· Objectives (as described above).

· Introduction: Narrative statements concerning the purpose/intent of the Problem Sheet.

· References: List of all reference documentation required to perform the task.

· Problems: Problem statements with all the data necessary to solve the problem.
