Carpet Materials and Installation Bldg 12 FA487720QA362 – Questions and Answers

1. Common sizes for cove base are 4”, 4.5” and 6” and we have no awareness in the regularly used product of a 5” base. Will 4.5” or 6” be acceptable?

a. 4.5” will also be acceptable.

2. Under Performance Work Statement for Flooring/Carpet Removal and Installation BLDG 12 it states the following under 1.1.3 “System and Free Standing Furniture. The Contractor shall lift furniture in-place and disassemble cubicle/modular furniture, as required, in order to remove and install all carpet tile flooring” it sounds the statement is backwards its usually free standing furniture gets moved and the system furniture / modular furniture is lifted in place. Please advise.

a. Every effort should be made to lift any type of furniture (free standing and system/modular furniture) in-place as the first option to accomplish the scope of work. Moving and/or disassembling should only be accomplished if lifting of furniture and components can’t be completed. The goal is to minimize movement of assets from their original position. If furniture is moved and/or disassembled, they are to be returned to their original configuration, location, and orientation.

3. Indicate areas that are not part of the scope of work on floor plan

a. An updated floor plan has now been included. Non-carpeted / unaffected areas are marked red.

4. Can a dumpster and a trailer be parked in the parking lot adjoining the building for trash and material in a parking spot approved by the POC for the duration of the project?

a. Yes, with prior coordination dumpster and trailer parking will not be an issue.

5. Will there be a possibility of working outside of the scheduled work hours/days?

a. The Government’s work days/hours shall remain in accordance with the Performance Work Statement (PWS). Extended hours and weekends shall not be considered for this effort and thus all quotes shall consider this in order to meet the established 60 day Period of Performance.

6. What is the load capacity of the elevator in the in the building? This is due to the possible use machinery to demo the old flooring.

a. Rating on the elevator states “3000 lbs”.

7. Can you provide a photograph of the existing carpeting (front and back) of any random area of the project? This is too better evaluate the difficulty in the demo process of the existing flooring

a. Attached to the solicitation are pictures of the carpet base that was attached to the drywall that was recently removed. The Government is unable to provide a picture of the actual carpet, as that would require removing the carpet that is currently installed.

8. Based upon our review the quantities contained in the scope of work as provided by the government are vastly understated.

a. Based upon potential inaccuracies in the Government’s estimations, all vendors shall include a 10% excess reserve for carpet and materials in their quote submission.
