Text version

Building 1210 (Dining Facility)

1. The Statement of Objectives state that the wireless service should provide wall to wall coverage. While at the site today we were told that the service should only cover the seating area.

a. The Primary concern was the large seating area, during the site visit, upon clarification, side rooms, including DV area will require coverage.

2. The Statement of Objectives state that this building should support 200 peak users. In counting the seats the number of potential users is closer to 275 users.

a. It was decided that during the busiest time (lunch) that though the Dining Facility has the capacity for 275 people that not nearly that many would be on their electronic devices simultaneously.

Building 1204 (Predator Fitness)

1. The statement of Objectives state the service should support 150 users. Need clarification as the building doesn’t look like it can support that many.

a. 150 is too many people for a facility of this size. The buildings fire code only recommends that no more than 50 people be inside this facility. This was most likely a typo.

Building 1003 (Cool Beans)

1. We were told that wireless service was to encompass the outside seating area when there was no mention of it in the Statement of Objectives.

a. It was decided that the outside was to be included after the SoO was published. The service will include the outside with the service at the Cool beans location. Technical solution will consider emissions and signal strength due to location of building.

2. Are we allowed to drill a hole through the outside wall to mount exterior equipment?

a. If any modifications are necessary to the facility, An AF CE Work order will be submitted and accomplished in conjunction with contract work efforts

3. What is the distance from the south east corner of the building to the communication closet?

a. In straight lines from the buildings DMARC room to the Cool Beans café ~175’, plan for/up to 220’

Building 1052 (Circuit DMARC)

1. Will we be provided power / rack space to mount equipment? If we are not are we allowed to install a rack or wall mount equipment in an enclosure?

a. Power will be provided, if comm areas support additional space for contractor equipment, contractor will supply rack space equipment. Closets with insufficient space, then the contractor will consult/coordinate the use of existing cabinets/racks.

Building 152 (Reaper Fitness)

1. Clarify peak user capacity for Reaper and Predator fitness?

a. The number of prospective users that may use 152 at any given time was to be around 20. The number for Building 1204 was a bit high, explained in an earlier question.

General Questions

1. Is it desired for users to be prompted with a splash page when they connect to the network? Will they just need to accept terms and conditions or will there be a requirement for more personal identification such as a username or email.

a. No splash page or web portal is necessary, if terms and conditions can be provided without any substantial overhead i.e. web or access server. If terms and conditions can be provided via router or on ‘connect to’ the network, then this feature will be acceptable, otherwise not necessary.

2. Will each building use a unique SSID or will a single SSID be used base wide.

a. A single SSID will be used for all four facilities.

3. Will there be a requirement for user content filtering as well as intrusion protection / anti-virus services.

a. If it can be configured with minimal overhead/without the need for additional equipment then yes

4. Will power be provided at the equipment locations in the buildings. (building 152 doesn’t have any power near the buildings DMARC)

a. If additional power is required, then work order will be submitted to provide additional power with the facility manager.

5. Are there any esthetic requirements on any installed equipment that will be visible?

a. Uniform appliances would be desirable, visible connections will be covered via Panduit or other concealment solutions.

6. Will there be a requirement for the following features;

a. Auto power and RF channel selection.

i. If ‘Auto-power’ is in reference to energy saving features then yes. Auto-RF channel selection will have to be determined with the involvement and coordination with the bases’ RF and frequencies managers. The main objective to not interfere with existing frequencies required for base operations.

b. Client roaming between buildings if a single SSID is used.

i. A single SSID will be used for all four facilities.

c. Client isolation so that users can’t see other users traffic on the network.

i. It has been decided that the network will largely be considered ‘Open’. Otherwise, If it can be configured with minimal overhead/without the need for additional equipment then yes

d. Client band steering as to steer users to the less congested 5GHz frequency when applicable.

i. If it can be configured with minimal overhead/without the need for additional equipment then yes.

e. Rate limit users to a specified bandwidth / throughput amount.

i. No rate limiting or throttling will be required

7. Is fiber available for us to utilize to interconnect the buildings?

a. Yes, fiber strands that interconnect the buildings will be available. Fiber cabling that is used is Single mode fiber, most often using SC type connectors

8. Is the power at building #1052 conditioned/have a generator or Long term UPS?

a. The facility has a generator that will automatically power-on in the event of power loss. The facility does not have a ‘facility’ UPS before the generator.

9. Are the buildings where the service is to be delivered on generators or UPS?

a. No. In the buildings that provide the wifi service do not have a generator for back-up power or UPS, the government will only pay for surge protection only on all equipment used for wifi delivery, not UPS or any form of redundant power supply.

10. From each buildings DEMARC Comm, Is the vendor supposed to run the low voltage cable (Cat6), or do we just supply the requirements and locations and 799 ABS/SC will run the physical cabling?

a. Depending on the best method to provide wifi via AP, location wise, vendor may be able to use the facilities integrated network to deliver service. Situation and location depending, the government may utilize its own methods to enable and assist with installation of cabling to AP.
