About this file

This document is a Questions and Answers (Q&A) file for a Microwave System Replacement Request for Quote (RFQ) at a military facility. The RFQ addresses technical specifications for microwave backhaul links, including a design goal of five 9's (99.999%) reliability with a combined 400 Mbps throughput for links between Cannon Building 9, Cannon Building 2302, and MAFR. The document clarifies site-specific requirements, particularly for PTP-600 links connecting locations like 3161a/3161b, Sundale Gate, and the Control Tower (Building 5000).

Key additional details include an offer for potential site visits, to be arranged by contacting Amn Monica Cantabrana by Thursday, 28 August 2025. The document also notes uncertainty about existing -48V DC power sources at the sites, with the previous Nokia gear's power supply being part of the system being replaced. Contractors are advised that while larger bandwidth is desirable, the minimum requirement is 400 Mbps total throughput, which was determined during the initial Statement of Objectives (SOO) planning phase.

Microwave System Replacement – Questions and Answers RFQ Requirement: General Clarification Request/QUESTION: Does each site have existing -48V DC power source?

ANSWER: We're unable to answer this question because we're unsure. I believe the Nokia gear had a -48 power supply, but that was part of the system that is being replaced.

If needed, a site visit can be arranged to allow contractors to see each site. Please contact Amn Monica Cantabrana, monica.cantabrana@us.af.mil or 575-784-6204, by Thursday, 28 August 2025 if you are interested.

RFQ Section/Question # 3.2 SITE SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS RFQ Requirement: Design goal for the backhaul links A/B (Cannon Building 9 and Cannon Building 2302 to MAFR) is five 9’s (99.999%) with a combined 400 Mbps thruput.

Clarification Request/QUESTION: Can you please expand on this requirement? Is the expectation 200 Mbps per link for a combined 400Mbps thruput? Or 400Mbps per link using a 1+1 FD setup?

ANSWER: 3.2 that is combined. At the time of the SOO (and based on the original requirement of 200 min) and it looked like that was the only way to achieve the desired reliability numbers. Larger bandwidth is always better, but 400 total is the minimum required.

RFQ Section/Question # 2.1 Site Information RFQ Requirement: 3161b to Sundale Gate: PTP-600 link supporting network only. This link uses a connectorized variant with dish antenna on both ends.

Clarification Request/QUESTION: Original design has Sundale Gate to 3161a, can you please confirm if this has changed to 3161b?

ANSWER:

The link to Sundale gate comes off the old tower. That would be tower a (the tower by 3161). • 3161b to Control Tower (Building 5000): PTP-600 link supporting network only

• 3161b to Sundale Gate: PTP-600 link supporting network only. This link uses a connectorized variant with dish antenna on both ends.

Should be

• 3161a to Control Tower (Building 5000): PTP-600 link supporting network only

• 3161a to Sundale Gate: PTP-600 link supporting network only. This link uses a connectorized variant with dish antenna on both ends.
