Questions and Answers // FA485525Q0006 – Golf Course Growing Medium

1. Regarding mushroom compost, is there a preference on type? Meaning whether it be liquid or an actual compost (no weed) of course? A: It is an actual sterile compost. It is not a liquid.

2. If normal compost, regarding 6-to-12-inch depth range. Is there a need to rototill and remove overage of soil of 6 to 12 inch, or is it going to just go directly over the ground as is? A: 50% will be tilled into the existing sand base. The other 50% will be applied to the base and rolled in to produce undulation to the green for playability. The existing greens have been blown flat by the New Mexico winds.

3. Is it possible to get photos? Or can you point out on the attached PDF which greens need to be redone on whispering winds course? A: You can look on Google Earth for pictures. The front nine is going to be done FY25 the back nine FY26.

4. Has there been any soil and water samples taken and if so, can those samples be provided? A: No soil samples have been taken. The base is sand. Water is effluent and supplied by the base plant. The pond (water supply) also receives a majority of the rainwater from the base and surrounding area.

5. Can you clarify the quantity of compost desired for the above referenced RFQ. The

Salient characteristics identify "enough to cover 35,000 square feet of land and work in a 6 to 12 inch depth" which would generally be 3" of material spread over 35,000 sf and tilled into the existing soil which is about 8,750 Cubic feet of amendments vs the RFQ which identifies "requires a sterile mushroom growing medium to cover 35,000 Sq Ft at a depth of 6-12 inches" or approx. 17,500CF to 35,000 Cubic feet. This broad range may lead to significantly differing quotes. Can you identify a Cubic Foot Quantity so we can bid apples to apples? A: I require 7,312 cubic feet.

6. Are bulk loads acceptable? A: No, as I want to preposition bags on pallets to the appropriate green.

7. Are bagged /palletized loads acceptable? A: Yes, that is the preferred method of delivery.

8. Would you be open to considering alternative compost options? Examples of alternatives:

• Leaf Mold Compost: Ideal for improving soil structure on fairways and roughs, promoting drainage and aeration while maintaining a neutral pH.

• Composted Cow Manure: Provides balanced nutrients for strong root development on tee boxes and greens, without significantly altering pH.

• Green Waste Compost: Versatile for general topdressing, soil amendment, and maintaining organic matter in heavily trafficked areas.

• Pine Bark Compost: Excellent for sand-based greens, offering pH balance and organic content while improving moisture retention.

• Blended Organic Compost: Custom blends tailored for golf courses to balance nutrient supply and soil health.

A: No, I want mushroom compost not only for its nutrient properties but also for its water retention properties. Some of the above address fairways and roughs. This growing medium will only be utilized on greens.
