1. Are there any as-built drawings on the tanks?
YES.
2. Is part of this project to upgrade the fire water storage tanks to current standards, i.e. NFAP 22?
NO. The tanks are not in-scope.
3. Do the tanks currently have vortex breakers for the suction lines?
NO. They drain out the bottom but have no vortex breakers as far as I can tell from the As-Builts (not that it's relevant, because upgrading them isn't in-scope anyway).
4. The tanks don’t appear to have any water gauges, are there any electronic monitoring devices for the tanks elsewhere?
YES. The tanks have mechanical gauges on top and digital thermostats (for controlling the anti-freezing mixers).
5. Is there sufficient power at the pole to provide 480 3phase for the fire pump and house or is it more preferable to provide diesel pump instead of electric?
The short answer is there IS power, but without knowing what amperage the contractor is planning to use in their motor we can't really provide an answer on voltage (the two are inversely proportional; any motor for a water pump will have a certain amperage AND a certain voltage). We do NOT want diesel.
a. What is the preferred location for the fire pump and house in close proximity to the tanks?
NONE. Whatever works.
6. From the site visit it appears the exterior water tanks are neither heated and/or insulated, is the a requirement for this project to have the tanks heated and/or insulated?
NO. The tanks are not in-scope. And not that it's relevant, but the tanks do have anti-freezing measures.
7. Can we scrap the existing tanks and install what is required, if existing tanks do not meet the requirements for this project?
NO. The tanks are not in-scope.
8. If new tanks are acceptable, does the government want to keep the existing tanks in current locations for their use?
N/A (again, the tanks are not in-scope)
9. Would a pump skid system with environmental enclosure be acceptable?
The position we should take is that the govt does not want the fire suppression system to freeze.
B. Question on storage building
1. Will the existing building be heated above 40 degrees Fahrenheit year round?
YES. There is other temperature-sensitive equipment on-site.
