About this file
This is a Statement of Objectives for a c-sUAS Sunshade System project at Shaw Air Force Base, South Carolina.
Shaw AFB seeks a contractor to supply and install a double-layered netting system designed to enclose a single sunshade structure for aircraft parking bays, with the primary objective of preventing intrusions by small Unmanned Aircraft Systems (sUAS). The netting system shall be attached to existing columns and horizontal spans of the sunshade structure without drilling into pavement. Each bay's netting must be manually operable by a single operator and shall be movable either by sliding to one side like a shower curtain or parting in the middle like a theater stage curtain. When open, the netting system must store neatly within a 1-foot clearance of the parking bay columns and be capable of being secured in both open and closed positions. The system shall allow entry and exit of individual aircraft while maintaining secure closure of remaining parking spaces.
Netting material specifications include UV-resistant, moisture-resistant, and fire-retardant properties with a minimum expected lifespan of 5 years and thickness of at least #36-gauge. The system must not significantly deform when subjected to wind gusts exceeding 110 miles per hour, and any gaps or openings in the barrier or netting system shall not exceed 9 inches square. Parking bay approximate dimensions are 65 feet wide, 25 feet in clearance height, and 60 feet in depth for each entry/exit bay opening.

c-sUAS Sunshade System Shaw AFB, SC
Minimum Requirements
Shaw AFB is seeking a contractor to supply and install a double-layered netting system that shall enclose a single sunshade for aircraft at Shaw AFB, SC. The primary purpose of this system is to prevent intrusions by small Unmanned Aircraft System (sUAS).
No component of the proposed system shall be drilled into the pavement. The system shall be attached to the existing columns and horizontal spans of the sunshade structure.
The netting for each bay shall be movable by a single, manual operator. Contractor has the option to decide if the netting for each bay shall slide open to one side like a shower curtain or part in the middle like a theater stage curtain. However, when in the open position, the netting system shall store neatly within a 1-foot clearance of the parking bay columns. The system shall be capable of being secured in both the open and closed positions. The system shall allow entry/exit of an individual aircraft while the netting for the remaining parking spaces stay securely closed. Netting material shall be UV-resistant, moisture-resistant, and fire-retardant, and it shall have a minimum expected lifespan of 5 years. Netting material shall be at least #36-gauge thickness. The netting system shall not significantly deform when subjected to wind gusts exceeding 110 miles per hour. Any gaps or openings in the barrier/netting system shall not be larger than 9 inches square.
The sunshade covers individual parking bays. Approximate dimensions of each parking bay opening are listed below.
Approximate Dimensions Parking bay approximate dimensions are:
- Width of each entry/exit bay opening: 65’
- Clearance height of each entry/exit bay opening: 25’
- Bay depth: 60’
