About this file

This document contains questions and answers regarding a Request for Quote (RFQ) for Portable Mobile Ramps. The key details are:

The RFQ is seeking to purchase 3 portable mobile loading docks/ramps for the 635 MMG at Holloman AFB, NM. The ramps must meet the criteria specified in the attached Statement of Work, including a weight capacity of 75-80K lbs and a 2-foot deck/lip length. The current ramp from Dockzilla with a 40-60 inch service range would be technically acceptable, even though the RFQ called for 38-56 inches. The extra weight capacity and deck length are required to safely load and offload heavy assets like BPUs (44K lbs) and the forklifts (17-23K lbs) used to move them. Quotes must be submitted in accordance with the "Combo-RBCP Portable Mobile Ramp" attachment.

1. Q: The current ramp from Dockzilla has a service range of 40" to 60 instead of the 38-56 inches called out in your RFQ. Would this service range still be technically acceptable?

A: Yes, the 40-60” service range would be technically acceptable. To elaborate/clarify…60-62” is on the high end of flat bed trailer heights…it’s good on the off chance we receive one that high. The lower trailers below 40” are often RGN (removable goose neck) trailers allowing rolling stock assets/vehicles to be driven/rolled off the front end.

2. Q: Looking for some more detail on Feature #4, from your Statement of Work. Can you please provide more detail on this item - specs, dimensions, what is used for, etc; This question arises for the capacity request of 80 K lbs, and Dimension #4 asks for a deck/lip length of 2 feet - seems like these requests are similar.

A: We requested 75-80K for weight capacity. These ramps will be required to sustain upload/offload procedures for heavy assets here at BEAR. For example, BPUs that weigh 44K. This weight in addition to tow vehicle weight or forklift weight requires more than just an average 30K or 50K mobile ramp. The forklifts that tow or lift BPUs/heavy shipping containers weigh in a range of 17-23K. This is strictly a safety driven request/requirement. Our goal is to not test the limits of lower rated mobile ramps or be within 2-3K pounds of maxing out a newly required ramp.

Yes, a stowable deck bridge should be included to cover the gap between the truck and mobile ramp. 2 feet appears to be a near average standard for all mobile ramps ranging from 18-24”. The extra inches are mainly a safety precaution to provide clearance in case the mobile ramp or trailer shift. If the deck bridge only has 1” on the trailer and a shift occurs for any reason it could cause an accident and major damage to assets/personnel injury.
