About this file
This is a Questions and Answers document for the repair and replacement of infrared heaters in Building 439 at Grissom Air Reserve Base, Indiana. The Government will retain a quantity of 5 replacement tubes, with priority on the first tube after the burner due to frequent heat-related failures. The current infrared radiant heaters are Space-Ray LTU 225,000 BTU/HR units. Contractors must reattach existing ductwork in good condition using high-temp tape for exhaust connections, with possible reducer requirements depending on the heater selected. Heaters must be replaced at the existing height with stability cables remaining above crane travel paths, and tubes must be positioned close to the existing trusses. Power is supplied at 120 VAC 60 HZ 2.6 Amps per the drawings.
The existing thermostat integrated into the base EMCS system must be reused and validated through Havel Controls (Kelly Boocher, 260-497-1546, kboocher@shambaugh.com), with controls validation included in contractor pricing. Scrap metal may be removed from base and retained by the contractor. Single-stage heaters are required, and manufacturers other than those in the plans are acceptable if they meet or exceed specifications. A superintendent must be on-site at all times per FAR 52.236-6, though the superintendent may also serve as the Quality Control Manager and Safety Manager. AutoCAD files will not be provided to contractors.

8. Are we required to replace the thermostat or any low voltage devices?
A. No. Reuse existing thermostat which is integrated into the base EMCS. Validate with Havel (Controls Contractor) that everything is working correctly through EMCS.
