STATEMENT OF WORK

REPAIR AND RECONDITION HIGH TEMPERATURE HOT WATER

CIRCULATION PUMP

1. Summary of Work:

1.1. The contractor shall provide all labor, equipment and materials to repair and recondition, including the upgrade of the Mechanical Seal, Wear Rings and Throat Bushing, of the Dean Brothers Pumps R-484 6x8-15 ½ end-suction centrifugal type pump used on the distribution system of the high temperature hot water heating plant.

1.2. The Contractor shall recondition the pump with OEM parts unless manufacturer has stated otherwise. Shipping costs back to Malmstrom AFB will be included in the price quote.

2. Pump Information:

2.1. Manufacturer: Dean Brothers

2.2. Model: R-484

2.3. Size: 6x8-15 ½

3. WORK SCOPE:

3.1. Qualification:

3.1.1. All work is to be performed by a company specializing in fluid handling & industrial API 610 pumping equipment and have a proven track record with previous repair/upgrade work at the Malmstrom Air Force Base.

3.2. Inspection:

3.2.1. Visual inspection of all components

3.2.2. Disassemble pump

3.2.3. Record run-outs

3.2.4. Record clearances

3.2.5. Disassemble rotor

3.2.6. Record clearances

3.2.7. Check case/cover split line

3.2.8. Sandblast all components if needed

3.2.9. Clean components

3.3. Case:

3.3.1. Inspect machined fits for proper dimensions and for any defects

3.3.2. Weld Repair/Build-up of fits (weld pads, etc.) or casing flaws if required

3.3.3. Machine fits if required to achieve minimum manufacturer recommended clearances

3.3.4. Skim-cut flange gasket surfaces

3.3.5. Spiral-cut flange gasket surfaces

3.3.6. Clean and de-burr all sharp edges

3.3.7. Prep for final assembly

3.4. Cover:

3.4.1. Inspect machined fits for proper dimensions and for any defects

3.4.2. Minor Weld Repair/Build-up of fits (weld pads, etc.) or casing flaws if required

3.4.3. Machine fits if required to achieve minimum manufacturer recommended clearances

3.4.4. Modify stuffing box to accept new John Crane 8B1T mechanical seal with Plan 23 flush

3.4.5. Clean and de-burr all sharp edges

3.4.6. Prep for final assembly

3.5. Adapter – Cover to Bearing Frame:

3.5.1. Inspect machined fits for proper dimensions and for any defects

3.5.2. Minor Weld Repair/Build-up of fits (weld pads, etc.) or casing flaws if required

3.5.3. Machine fits if required to achieve minimum manufacturer recommended clearances

3.5.4. Clean and de-burr all sharp edges

3.5.5. Prep for final assembly

3.6. Case & Cover Wear Rings and Throat Bushing:

3.6.1. Manufacture new DuPont Vespel CR-6100 case wear ring.

3.6.2. Manufacture new DuPont Vespel CR-6100 cover wear ring.

3.6.3. Manufacture new DuPont Vespel CR-6100 throat bushing.

3.6.4. Parts to be machined per DuPont™ Vespel® CR-6100 APPLICATION AND

INSTALLATION GUIDE FOR CENTRIFUGAL PUMP STATIONARY WEAR PARTS,

Publication No. K-16392-2, Most Current Edition

3.6.5. Inspection of finished parts and work preformed

3.7. Shaft:

3.7.1. Inspect for TIR, straightness, etc.

3.7.2. Polish impeller fits

3.7.3. Clean threads

3.7.4. Prep for final assembly

3.8. Impeller:

3.8.1. Inspect impeller prior to any work for damage, etc.

3.8.2. Weld impeller bore and finish machine to proper size if required

3.8.3. Tack weld or set screw all impeller wear rings in three places if needed

3.8.4. Final Inspect of impeller and work preformed

3.8.5. Prep for final assembly

3.9. Rotating Assembly:

3.9.1. Machine impeller and shaft as one rotating assembly

3.9.2. Skim cut impeller wear rings

3.9.3. Final finish OD’s to proper surface finish

3.9.4. Ensure proper TIR (Total Indicated Run-Out) of impeller wear ring OD’s and sleeve OD/s to

+/- 0.001”

3.9.5. Balance assembly to 4 W/N criteria

3.10. Bearing Housing:

3.10.1. Clean bearing housing

3.10.2. Inspect machined fits for proper dimensions and for any defects

3.10.3. Minor Weld Repair/Build-up of fits (weld pads, etc.) or casing flaws if required

3.10.4. Machine fits if required to achieve minimum manufacturer recommended clearances

3.10.5. Clean and de-burr all sharp edges

3.10.6. Epoxy Coat inside of bearing housing if needed

3.10.7. Inspect

3.10.8. Prep for final assembly

3.11. Pump Seal

3.11.1. Install John Crane Type 8B1T cartridge mechanical seal with pumping ring

3.11.1.1. Material: AFLAS/CARBON/SILICON CARBIDE/STAINLESS STEEL

3.11.1.2. Material Code: X18 F48 1 X18 O58 H 316/HC

3.11.1.3. P/N: M196682

3.11.1.4. Drawing number: GA-128555-1 Issue A

3.12. Seal Flush:

3.12.1. Conversion to Plan 23 Seal Flush will be required for adequate cooling of the mechanical seal.

3.12.2. Plan 23 Seal Flush piping, heat exchanger and auxiliary components will be the customer’s responsibility and are not included in this scope of supply.

3.13. Closed System Lubrication:

3.13.1. Install ISOMAG magnetic bearing isolators

3.13.1.1. Requires modification of existing bearing covers

3.13.2. Install Oil-Rite milled aluminum level gauge with dial thermometer and Viton seals

3.13.2.1. Requires modification of existing bearing frame

3.13.3. Install desiccant breather

3.13.3.1. Includes adapter fittings from frame to breather

3.14. Final Assembly:

3.14.1. Install new parts listed in below table

3.14.2. Install case wear ring into pump case

3.14.3. Install cover wear ring into pump cover

3.14.4. Install stuffing box bushing into pump cover

3.14.5. Apply Sealant to gland studs to prevent leakage of cooling water from cover cooling chamber

3.14.6. Orientate stuffing box chamber vent in Top Vertical (12:00) position

3.14.7. Record final clearances

3.14.8. Record final run-outs

3.14.9. Install mechanical seal

3.14.10. Install coupling hub if provided

3.14.11. Apply proper torque to all fasteners

3.14.12. Final Inspect of all installations and work preformed

3.14.13. Air test complete unit for 30 minutes, record results

3.14.14. Mask any needed areas and prep for paint

3.14.15. Paint with high temperature silver paint

3.15. Prep for Shipment:

3.15.1. Prior to shipping remove gauge, breather, external tubing, etc.

3.15.2. Package loose parts to be shipped with pump

3.15.3. Plug any openings

3.15.4. Verify mechanical seal spacers are in place

3.15.5. Palletize pump in vertical position to minimize tipping during transit

3.15.6. Plastic wrap palletized pump

3.15.7. Tag shipment with Contract Number and correct shipping address

3.15.8. Firm Freight, FOB Destination to be included in the quoted price

3.16. Documentation to be provided:

3.16.1. Detailed final work scope report listing all tasks performed on the pump

3.16.2. Mechanical Seal drawing

3.16.3. Spare parts list for all new parts

3.16.4. As built running clearances

3.16.5. Air test results on assembled pump

3.16.6. Dynamic balance report on impeller

4. Parts Required:

4.1. All parts are OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) unless manufacturer is stated otherwise

4.2. Common fasteners, bearings, plugs, etc. may be procured locally and not be limited to the OEM
