About this file
This document is a Q&A document for Solicitation FA462125Q0039 for Etching of Tools. The solicitation involves 8 toolboxes, each measuring 80"H x 59"L x 27"W, with specific etching requirements for tools and tool cases. Each toolbox will be etched with a unique serial number (MKVM8001 through MKVM8008), and the tools within must also be etched. The toolboxes will be shipped on 8 pallets (1 kit per pallet), with tools remaining in their original packaging to minimize etching errors. The total weight of the toolkits is 10,160 lbs (1,270 lbs per kit), and shipping costs are the responsibility of the contractor.
Key details from the Q&A include confirmation that the toolboxes cannot be split into separate shipments, will not be shipped in wooden crates, and are already palletized from the original manufacturer's shipment. The tools will be shipped within the toolboxes as originally packaged, and both the tools and their carrying cases must be etched. The contractor is responsible for shipping logistics, including arranging carrier pickup and ensuring the pallets are secured for LTL truck transportation.

Etching of Tools
Solicitation: FA462125Q0039
Questions Received by 8/25/2025 and Answers
1. Given our limited space, would it be possible to split the delivery of the 8 toolboxes into two separate shipments (for example, 4 toolboxes at a time) to our location in Virginia?
- No
2. Please confirm whether each toolbox will be shipped in a wooden crate.
- No
3. I just want to confirm my understanding—please verify that each tool in every toolbox will be etched only with the following:
Toolbox 1, etch MKVM8001
Toolbox 2, etch MKVM8002
Toolbox 3, etch MKVM8003
Toolbox 4, etch MKVM8004
Toolbox 5, etch MKVM8005
Toolbox 6, etch MKVM8006
Toolbox 7, etch MKVM8007
Toolbox 8, etch MKVM8008
- Yes
4. Once all tools are etched and ready for delivery to the Kansas address specified in the contract, will you provide the shipping labels via email and arrange for a carrier to pick them up from our location?
- Shipping costs to and from the contractor's location are the responsibility of the contractor and should be included in their quote.
5. According to the contract, each toolbox is specified to measure 80”H x 59”L x 27”W.
Based on the attached PDF file, Toolbox Dimensions, please confirm if our understanding is correct. We just want to ensure that the toolbox opens from the top of the 59” side, not from the top of the 80” side.
- N/A, The total height of the toolkit(top and bottom box) is 80”.
Only the top opens which is the 59” length. Please see picture on next page.
27”
59”
80”
6. You have 8 toolboxes listed which consists of 1 upper and 1 lower box for a total of 16 boxes, correct?
- Correct
7. For shipping, will they be assembled via being bolted together or should I quote 16 pallets?
- The 8 toolkits are still palletized from their original shipment on 8 pallets (1 kit per pallet)
8. For shipping, toolboxes will contain the tools or will the tools be palleted separately? If so, how many pallets?
- Tools will be shipped within the toolboxes as the manufacturer sent them.
This greatly reduced the possibility of etching errors between boxes.
9. For shipping, you will have them palleted and secured for the LTL truck to pick up?
- They are palleted and ready for shipment
10. Do the toolboxes themselves need to be etched with the serial number?
- No
11. Many of the sets come in their own carrying case like the drill bits, dies sets, extractor sets, etc.. Does that box need to be etched also, or just the tools in it?
- Yes, cases for tools sets must be etched
12. I want to verify the weight. You have the total weight listed of 10160. But that seems to me to be just the boxes with no tools. I would estimate the tools at an additional 2000 pounds per box, or 16,000 pounds more for a total weight of 26,000 pounds.
Can you conirm please?
• Weight requested is correct
- 1270 lbs each, multiplied by 8 = 10160 lbs (please see attachment)
• Weight listed on the original shipping documents for each kit: 1270 lbs each, multiplied by 8 = 10160 lbs
- Top toolbox (tools listed inside the box) is contained in cardboard box, on a wood skid pallet
- Bottom toolbox (tools listed inside the box) is contained in a cardboard box, on a wood skid pallet
- Both boxes (1 toolkit) banded together
