About this file

This is a Q&A document for a high-speed camera system procurement at Vandenberg Space Force Base. The document addresses seven key technical areas including system integration, real-time output capabilities, environmental requirements, lens mount specifications, scalability, storage compatibility, and portability requirements.

The responses specify that the cameras will not integrate with existing equipment but must support live monitoring up to 1080p 30hz 3G-SDI. The system must operate in temperatures from 25°F to 110°F in salt air and fog conditions, potentially in blast housings without environmental controls. Both Nikon F and Canon EOS mounts are required as interchangeable options, with full EOS lens control capability. The system must natively support Phantom CineMag storage without adapters. Regarding portability, the system should be one-person transportable and suitable for both shelf storage and mounting on mobile optics tracking systems. While scalability in frame rates, resolution, and storage capacity is desired, these specifications are primarily driven by core mission requirements.

Text version

1. System Integration:

o Will the high-speed camera system be integrated with existing telemetry or monitoring systems at Vandenberg SFB? If so, are there specific systems or protocols that the camera must support beyond the stated IRIG B frame time stamping? – Cameras will not be integrated to existing equipment.

2. Real-Time Output:

o Regarding the real-time 3G-SDI video output, is there a preference for resolution or frame rate for live monitoring? This will help ensure optimal configuration for your intended application. – Live monitoring up to 1080p 30hz 3G-SDI

3. Environmental Conditions:

o Are there specific environmental conditions (e.g., exposure to heat, vibration, or dust) in which the camera and accessories will operate? If so, this will allow us to confirm the system’s durability and operational reliability. – Camera system will be subjected to environmental temperatures of 25 deg F to 110 deg F and subject to salt air and fog environment for an undetermined amount of mission time (days). Cameras can also be installed into blast housings with not environmental cooling or heating.

4. Lens Mount Requirements:

o The solicitation specifies both Nikon F and Canon EOS mounts. Should these mounts be delivered as interchangeable options with the system, or is compatibility with either mount sufficient? – Lens mounts should be an interchangeable option and offer full control of EOS lens for the Canon lens EOS optics.

5. Future Scalability:

o Are there anticipated future applications or scenarios that may require scalability in terms of frame rates, resolution, or storage capacity? This insight could help us propose a solution with built-in flexibility for future needs. – Frame rates, resolutions and storage capacity scalability would be a nice to have ability. Resolutions and frame rates are our requirements driving force for camera choices.

6. Compatibility with Phantom CineMag:

o For compatibility with Phantom CineMag, would a solution using an adapter or third-party accessory be acceptable, or must the camera natively support this feature? – In our current operations configuration native Phantom CineMag must be natively supported for processing and usage.

7. Field Use and Portability:

o Given the inclusion of a ruggedized carrying case, will the system frequently be transported to different locations? If so, are there any specific portability or ease-of-use considerations that should be factored in? – Camera systems should be (1) man portable for transportation and storage on standard shelfing systems. Camera can also be mounted and left in place on mobile optics tracking systems to be transported to the field for use.
