Text version

1. Can the contractor bring in their own rock crusher, and Yes

2. New Contracting address 2d contracting Squadron 801 Kenny Ave, Suite 2300 Barksdale AFB, LA 71112; Bld 4400

3. Will there be a place on base to stock pile the one (1) foot undercut or will it be necessary to have it hauled off the site There is a place on base, but the contractor will have to utilize mechanical means to “pile” up the dirt to keep the site accessible by others.

4. Where can the daily slurry from the saw cutting be disposed? At the yard to the north, where it was shown that a concrete plant could be set up?

5. What type of gaps exist between concrete slab blocks? None, poured next to each other

6. How are the slab blocks connected to each other? There is some keyways that we have encountered before but really not sure, but we will put dowel bars in all adjacent “new” slabs, done within the last 15 years.

7. What is the maximum number of the 237 slab blocks that can be removed at

8. any one time? There are actually 239, once the project is awarded, it is your baby to work with

9. Is it mandatory that the C&D debris (old concrete) needs to be recycled or can it be just disposed of at an offsite facility? We would rather have it disposed of on base

10. How many feet from the designated work area are power source(s) available for the contractor? What type of power do you need?

11. What is the diameter of the water size connection? Typical fire hydrant

12. On page 2 of attachment 7, one side shows epoxy coated dowels and the other side shows painted and oil coated, Do we use both or one or the other? Actually, 10” dowel baskets are painted with red paint. Dowell bars are also coated with red paint, then when they are drilled and epoxied into the existing pavement, the unepoxied end is usually greased.

13. Do we have to clear runway of barricades and equipment at close of business every day? No, the barricades will stay in place and be the contractor’s responsibility to maintain, i.e., lights, sturdiness etc.

14. Is there any driver training to operate on the Apron? Yes, anyone that drives on the airfield will be required to take the airfield driver’s test, about 30 minutes of time and training can be done by our airfield management section.

15. What are the liquidated damages are on this project, if any? None

16. Can an approximation of the total lineal feet and width of the proposed taxi lane stripping be provided so that we can include an accurate estimate in our bid proposal? About 350 square feet of paint making a 14” stripe 300 feet long, figure 300 linear feet of 6” reflective yellow stripe, bordered by 2-4” non reflective black stripes.

17. For this project, what is the exact scope of work for the "Demolition of the Wash Rack"? Is there any underground pipe removal and/or relocation required to in the scope of work? Disregard

18. For this project, are we required to use a paving machine for concrete placement? No, but there are smoothness requirements.

19. For this project, is there anything we have to do to the sub-base before placing the Woven Geotextile material? Oh yes, grade and compact the base course, then place the geotextile by “pinning” it to the subgrade making it taut, overlap any seams by 12”.

20. For this project, is it mandatory that the old concrete being removed from the apron area has to be recycled, either on the base or off the base? It is preferred that the concrete be recycled here on base, our environmental section has to do reports to higher ups on tons of recycled material.

21. In going over the SOW, item 4 mentions “10” dowel basket assemblies 15” OC where applicable”. Can you verify how many and where such assemblies are to be incorporated into this work? If there are none, please confirm. We will be going back with the existing joint layout. This all depends on how the contractor performs his construction. If it is with a paving machine, then the machine can insert the bars via mechanical means where they are required. Remember, bars will not be placed into the box drain, nor any old pavement.

22. Item # 2 from the Question and Answers from the pre bid states " We observed that there were existing ground rod system in the work areas that will have to be demolished. Do we have to replace them? If we do, please provide design details such as how many, length, etc. so we all can bid the same . Answer " Yes they will be replaced, we will get you a design." Is that design out on the bid documents now? How many times does this condition occur? The contractor will take note of where these tie downs are located and put back in kind.

23. Can we get some details on the paint striping that has to be replaced? How long are the markings, how wide, any verbiage, what type of materials ( thermos plastic or concrete paint) are to be used? About 350 square feet of paint making a 14” stripe, figure 300 linear feet of 6” reflective yellow stripe, bordered by 2-4” non reflective black stripes.

24. How close to the work area will the laydown yard for materials be? How close to the work area will the space for our job trailer be? Are these two locations one in the same? Approximately 800 feet driving, and yes, they are the same.
