About this file

This document is a Questions and Answers file for the Paint Barn project (Contract Number FA452825QCS03) addressing electrical and equipment specifications for a paint booth. The document provides detailed electrical requirements, including two panelboards with a total of 195A capacity that supports various components: the paint booth shell, exhaust fan motors, booth heater, air compressor, lighting, and breathable air pump. Specific electrical specifications include a 120V 20A breaker for the booth shell and lighting, a 120/208V 3-pole 90A breaker for the air compressor, a 460V/3 Phase booth heater with 25A full load amperage, two exhaust fan motors with varying voltage and amperage ratings, and a 208V 20A breaker for the breathable air pump.

A key clarification in the document is that no breakers are allowed within the paint booth due to maintenance clearance constraints, and contractors must use existing roof penetrations without enlarging them. The document also addresses a contractor's inquiry about using a larger fan to meet the required 20,000 CFM, with the definitive response being that existing roof holes must be used and cannot be modified. These specifications and constraints provide critical guidance for potential contractors in understanding the precise electrical and structural requirements for the paint booth installation.

Paint Barn - FA452825QCS03

Questions and Answers

Q: Are we to use only the electric power that is currently available in that room or could we get additional power if we run/enlarge the main feed? And if yes, what power is available and approximately how far away is it?

A: Recommend maximum electrical specs for paint booth shell only to be supported by a 120V 20A breaker. I would expect this to power the control box and the lights in the booth (same as current state). There are two panelboards located adjacent to the garage door.

Point of clarification – There are no breakers allowed within the confines of the paint booth (segregated by the gated) because there is not enough clearance for the electricians to perform maintenance.

One more point to clarify – all the components below operate across two panelboards and add to 195A. This 195A includes the shell, the exhaust fan motors, booth heater, air compressor, lighting, and breathable air pump. All components are required to make the paint booth complete and usable.

The Air Compressor on site has a max of 125 PSIG supported by a 120/208V, 3-pole 90A breaker

The Booth Heater is 460V/3 Phase with a system full load amperage (FLA) of 25A

There are two Exhaust Fan motors: There are no breakers listed for the exhaust fans, below is the information from the data plates

Motor 1: 208V - 6.6A, 230V - 6.2A, 460V - 3.1A

Motor 2: 208V – 6A, 230V - 6.3A, 460V - 3.1A

Booth Lighting supported by 120V 20A breaker

Breathable Air Pump supported by 208V 20A breaker

Q: The SOW calls for a 30” Tube-Axle Fan but to meet the requested minimum 20,000 CFM and to meet the FPM’s we will need to use a bigger fan. You said that we need to use the existing holes in the roof. Can the holes in the roof be enlarged? And if yes would that be at our cost?

A: The contractor will need to use the existing roof penetration. No new roof penetrations will be made or enlarged.
