1. GENERAL
1.1. BACKGROUND & SCOPE
1.1.1. In order to regain storage footage from a fire that destroyed another building on base, the 5th Civil Engineer squadron requires a pre-engineered steel building (PEB) that will have capabilities of being upgraded into a fully functional building at a later date as funds become available. The requested building will have several services and amenities not installed or constructed.
1.1.2. This project is designed to begin the process of constructing a fully functional facility. The facility itself is broken out into phases. The first phase of the overall project is this project, with the construction of a basic foundation, superstructure, utility connection services, and basic electrical service in the facility. The end result of this project is an approximately 24,000 square foot facility with a footprint approximately 200x120 feet on a single span. The facility has the following critical requirements:
1.1.2.1. The facility requires bay doors at each end of the facility, man doors adjacent to the bay doors, two man doors on the front of the facility (designated east side on attached maps), and man doors on back of facility, all spaced in order to maintain fire escape requirements.
1.1.2.2. Services entrances for all utilities shall be installed in the facility.
1.1.2.3. The facility will be lit and contain electrical for connection to vehicles for winter heating purposes, but no other utilities will be connected in this phase of the project.
1.1.2.4. The minimum snow loading on the facility shall be not less than 40 psf, or snow loading requirements for this region per the International Building Code 2015, whichever is greater.
2. DESCRIPTION OF WORK
2.1. DESIGN
2.1.1. Utilizing attached drawings and drawings provided by the manufacturer of the proposed PEB, provide a design of the building size and location (if different from proposed location), footer, all service entrance/exit locations (electric, water, gas, and sewer), and internal lighting and electrical layout. Provide civil design for interior floor, including 12 inches of base course, and an 8 inch, dowel reinforced slab.
2.1.2. Provide cost for included metal roof from the manufacturer and EPDM roof upgrade.
2.1.3. Provide options for R-20 and R-38 or better roof insulation.
2.1.4. Provide options for 2 inch, and 3 inch sandwich panels and associated R values and costs.
2.1.5. Placement of the facility is preliminary. Adjustments of up to 25 feet from the preliminary placement are authorized to optimize construction.
2.2. FOUNDATION
2.2.1. Excavate and construct standard 4 foot depth footer system, or approved equal that meets the dimensional and other criteria set forth by the proposed PEB. Assume 2,000 psf soil bearing capacity for design purposes. Excavated soil shall be deposited in approved location on base.
2.2.2. Set final height of floor at 1,627 feet.
2.2.3. Insulate footer walls to IBC 2015 standards, assuming facility will be heated at a later date.
2.2.4. Internally, provide 20 inches of base course, compacted in industry standard lift depths that will terminate at the slab elevation. An internal concrete slab will not be poured in this phase of the project.
2.3. SUPERSTRUCTURE
2.3.1. Utilizing plans of the proposed PEB, construct on the footer system. The building itself shall have a floor to eave height of not less than 20 feet.
2.3.2. The roof pitch shall be not less than 1.5”/12”. The roof shall be constructed per the proposed building specifications. Provide an option for an EPDM roof. The roof shall be insulated to not less than R-20 rating.
2.3.3. Provide insulated metal sandwich panel for the exterior walls. Facility color shall be similar in color to Federal Standard 595C, Color #33578, or approved equal. Painting after installation is acceptable.
Provide estimate R Values for 2 inch and 3 inch panels.
