FA4528‐17‐R‐0006 Q&A’s
Q1: Under the abbreviation of finish product you have "T" listed on all items but no description of what "T" stands for?
Tumble Dry; See amended PWS dated 19 Apr 17, Attachment 1/Finish Schedule.
Q2: Parka Washable it's listed that it should dry on a hanger. My experience having multiple base contract is that these are very thick and would take a few days to dry with air only?
We would consider changing the finish requirement to “T” (tumble dry) as long as the dryer temperature is low enough to prevent shrinkage.
Q3: There's a hospital bulk pricing per lb. request, but in your PWS there is a request that scrubs be press and package individually, how many of those items is there in the bulk request or what percentage of the bulk?
See amended PWS dated 19 Apr 17, Attachment 1/Finish Schedule. Scrub shirt/pants constitute for approximately 50% of all laundered items for the hospital based on historical averages; however, this may vary from year to year.
Q4: There is also the same request for lab coats, and I take it that those are coming out of the bulk pricing that is being requested?
Yes; Lab coats are part of the total hospital requirement. Lab coats constitute approximately 5% of all laundered items for the hospital based on historical averages;
however, this may vary from year to year.
Q5: There is a request to get the patients gown separated from the bulk medical and package together in filmed is that correct? Also what is the percentage out of the bulk medical for these items?
Yes; Patient gowns are part of the total hospital requirement. Patient gowns constitute approximately 5% of all laundered items for the hospital based on historical averages;
however, this may vary from year to year.
Q6: Linen exchange is requesting bulk linen but then in the finishing section the request is to package certain items together by size (queen etc.) is this correct so separation will need to be done on the back end so these items can be package together or are they going to be already separated by item (all wash clothes together etc.)?
Bulk linen will include several types of items - towels, wash cloths, bath mats, queen flat sheets, queen fitted sheets, twin flat sheets, twin fitted sheets, pillow cases, twin mattress pads, queen mattress pads, dish cloths, kitchen towel, hot pads, crib sheets, crib blankets, queen zippered mattress encasement and twin zippered mattress encasement. These items need to be packaged with like items in the quantities listed in the attachment to the PWS per para 1.11. To date, our contractor has processed bulk linen in large machines, so everything white/washable goes into the same load. Quantities of low-use items, such as zippered mattress encasements or crib sheets, will be 0-5 items, which means they will not be washed separately. It is not valuable to separate each item when it goes into the same wash. The contractor currently separates laundry by type of item during the folding process.
Q7: The pre spray for stains can the government just receive it in bulk 10 gallons at a time? Will these items be separated and mark has requiring stain treatment? Also using different stain chemical can affect the material in different ways will the Government wave any damage that can occur to those items from using different stain chemical to try to remove those stains?
The PWS states that the contractor shall apply stain removal treatment (para 1.6.4). Items will be identified by the government as needing stain removal by placing them in a separate plastic bag. Most linens are white cotton or cotton/poly blend, which should not react poorly to stain removal solutions. Colored items such as parkas, bedspreads and coverlets should be tested with a pre-spot in an inconspicuous area to ensure the solution is compatible with the fabric. Once this is established on the first one or two items of that type, it should not be necessary to continue to spot test the same chemical. The government will not sign a blanket waiver to all stain removal actions. However, the Government will waive the first one or two items of each type tested at the beginning of the contract. If the Contractor wishes to change stain removal chemicals, they should first coordinate with the COR so the Government is aware that a new chemical will be substituted.
Q8: Chromate rags and shop rags are not referenced in the PWS, is this intentional?
Yes; Chromate/shop rags are not required on this solicitation.
Q9: Sharps containers are not referenced in the PWS, is this intentional?
Yes; There has not been a requirement for Sharps containers on the current contract.
Q10: Mission Essential service is not refenced in the PWS, is this intentional?
Yes; Linen and Dry Cleaning services are not mission essential at Minot AFB.
Q11: What is the purpose of the color safe bleach?
There may be a requirement for color safe bleach on the lighter colored coverlets.
Q12: Please identify what the “SH” and “T” are for with regards to the finishing requirements.
SH is “Strut Hangar”, T is “Tumble Dry”; See amended PWS dated 19 Apr 17, Attachment 1/Finish Schedule.
