About this file
This is a Technical Manual (NAVAIR 17-1-114.4.1) published by the Naval Air Systems Command documenting intermediate and depot maintenance procedures with illustrated parts breakdowns for lifting slings and related support equipment used on C-130 aircraft.
The manual contains detailed maintenance instructions for four primary lifting assemblies: (1) Sling Assembly for Refrigeration Unit Installation (P/N 3402242-1, 190 LB safe working load); (2) Fixture Assembly for Flight Station Air Conditioning Unit Installation and Removal (P/N 3402244-1, 185 LB safe working load); (3) Hoist Assembly for Universal Cargo Compartment Refrigeration Unit and Auxiliary Power Unit Generator (P/N 3402245-1, 200 LB safe working load); (4) Hoist Assembly for Auxiliary Power Unit Installation (P/N 3402246-1, 400 LB safe working load); and (5) Sling Fitting Assembly for Rear Mount (P/N 3404003-1, 1,750 LB safe working load). Each assembly section includes standardized procedures for disassembly, cleaning and inspection, repair, assembly with refinishing and lubrication, proofload testing, illustrated parts breakdowns with usable-on codes, and notes on manufacturing details. Proofload testing requirements specify that testing must be performed at assigned depots via NAVAIRINST 13680.1 procedures due to non-availability of proofload adapters at intermediate maintenance facilities. Materials specified include epoxy primer (MIL-PRF-23377) and polyurethane coating (MIL-PRF-85285) for corrosion protection, with color options for Navy (untinted white, SAE-AMS-STD-595 7925) or USMC (green, SAE-AMS-STD-595 24052, 34052, or 34084) applications. The manual is incomplete without NAVAIR 17-1-114.1 and carries Distribution Statement C authorization for U.S. Government agencies and contractors for official use.
