About this file
This document contains site visit questions and answers for a federal contract opportunity to procure Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) storage solutions for the 19th Civil Engineering Squadron at Little Rock Air Force Base. The requirements include two main components: 105 lockers for PPE and 8 rolling racks for storage, designed to accommodate two complete sets of gear for 100 firefighters. Key specifications include open grid/welded wire style ventilation, flexible hook placement options, and dimensional constraints such as helmet clearance of approximately 10" and rack height/depth limitations to fit through doorways. The Fire Department will handle assembly of the storage units, and no specific steel gauge was mandated. The documentation clarifies that these are long-term storage solutions, with rolling racks intended for condensed gear storage rather than daily use lockers.

Questions for Mission Owner
LOCKERS FOR USE IN PPE (Quantity - 105) o Can you provide a photo? Photo of old space (New layout WILL NOT match this, new lockers will not be this style.)
o Is there a dimensional drawing? There is not a dimensional drawing available.
o What gauge steel? This is not specific requirement o What is the distance from the bottom of the locker to the lower boot shelf and the distance from the top of the locker to the top helmet shelf? Lower boot shelf is the bottom of the locker, Distance from top of locker to helmet shelf is flexible but must be able to fit a helmet that is approximately 10” tall.
o For ventilation, are both welded wire and a cut out acceptable? Lockers should be open grid(welded wire) style o Where do you prefer the "hooks" to be placed? On the left, right, back, or door? Any of those locations(except the door) are fine.
RACKS FOR PPE STORAGE (Quantity = 8) o Can you provide a photo? Photo of space where rolling racks will go.
o What gauge steel? This is not specific requirement
Are you requiring installation at your base? Or, will your AFCEC team or others be handling this? No, our team (Fire Department) will assemble.
1. Shelves – it states 12 per unit but the shelf size requested is 24” x 32”. Unit size is 20” wide x 20” deep – the shelves are too large to fit. Unit size of 20”x20” was not a required characteristic for the rolling rack storage. “Racks shall be modular in design. They shall be freestanding and built with a heavy-duty steel with powder coated finish for durability. All sides shall be open grid style panels ensuring maximum air circulation for fire gear drying. Each rack shall have 12 shelves that are approximately 24” wide and 32” deep. Overall dimensions shall not exceed 78”x32”x82” “
a. With this many shelves, a pair of boots & helmet may not fit – and if you need the hang bar there won’t be room for a jacket or anything to hang down.
These are not daily use lockers. These are rolling racks for long term storage of gear in condensed form.
b. Example of possible layout:
2. Would 7’high units be acceptable? Rolling rack lockers cannot exceed 82” in overall height or 32” in overall depth in order to fit through doorways.
