Questions and Answers
12 September 2019
Q: Are there elevation requirements for each unit? If so, how many shelves per unit and what size?
A: Bottom shelf must be 6” from the floor with a solid bottom. There must also be a solid top that is 18” from the ceiling. We would like the system to be like the one in the drawing provided. It should have two mobile carriages that have a total of 12 columns or rows of baskets. These baskets would be back to back and open from either side. Each section (column) should have 5 8” high baskets and 3 4” high baskets. There should be a static section along the back wall that would not be back to back, but be the same design composed of at least 4 sections, five if the vendor could provide a similar design that would fit in the given space.
Q: Will there be any regular shelving? If not, will there only be bins that pull out?
A: No regular shelving.
Q: Should there be a ramp and deck to cover the floor tracks? If not, does the government want the tracks on top of the concrete flooring?
A: No ramp or deck just track anchored in the floor, but track height needs ¾” or less preferably with an angle or bevel on the edges so it is not a tripping hazard.
Q: Will the existing tracks be removed by the Air Force?
A: We are asking for the vendor to remove the existing tracks and plug the holes
Q: Should the bins roll out of the unit? If so, do the baskets need to be on a glider track, like a drawer that will pull out?
A: Yes, bins will need to be on a gliding track.
Q: If the quote states a 2 point bracket that attaches to the post and the static, and do not pull out, would that be acceptable?
A: We want all bins to be able to pull out.
Q: How tall should the units be?
A: Units cannot exceed 90” in height
Q: Are there seismic requirements?
A: What the manufacturer states for seismic anchoring is what we expect.
Q: Does the Air Force want plastic liners, or certain types of bins to hold smaller items and prevent them from falling through the cracks?
A: Yes, plastic liners with dividers for the baskets. Each basket should have enough dividers that would allow for six separate areas within one basket. They should also be reconfigurable so if the end user needs only two dividers they can remove or rearrange them.
Q: Is the HEPA filter and Air Scrubbers needed? Are any other methods acceptable?
A: Yes, the air scrubber with hepa filter is a must even if the vaccum you are using has a hepa filter. The air vents will also need to be sealed off. Infection control will sign off on the proper barriers, sticky mats and the other items listed prior to the start of installation.
Q: Can the Air Force provide a more realistic timeline for delivery and installation?
A: 8-12 weeks.
