About this file

This document is a detailed technical information request and response regarding HVAC repair and service requirements. The responses address three key technical questions: (1) the split damper assembly, which lacks a specific model number and will require custom fabrication from a damper supplier, (2) UV light specifications, involving a Guardian Air QRP-14, 24 Volt unit with a 5250 CFM total supply airflow, and (3) electrical and testing and balancing (TAB) services. The electrical and TAB services are primarily focused on connection and operational checks, with potential electrical installation if new equipment like motors or variable frequency drives (VFDs) are needed. The TAB will be "Limited" and concentrate on adjusting outside and return air dampers, maximizing airflow to office spaces, and improving air circulation through the existing mechanical system. Notably, chilled and hot water TAB services are not required, and the system currently has manual dampers instead of variable air volume (VAV) units.

HVAC Repair Additional Information:

1. Can you advise if there is a separate model number for the split damper assembly?

Answer: No separate model number is known. The AHU is from year 2000. This is likely not available as a direct fit from the AHU manufacturer, but would need to be purchased / fabricated from a damper supplier, or by integrating (2) purchased dampers into a fabricated frame to match the AHU inlet.

2. What is the type and quantity of uv lights needed?

Answer: The unit that is inside the AHU currently was not integral to the AHU installation, but is a drop in / add on unit. The existing unit is very similar to a Guardian Air QRP-14, 24 Volt unit, though a multi-tube style or other may be able to be installed. Currently, the total supply airflow of the AHU is 5250 CFM.

3. Can you provide more clarification on the electrical and tab services? (will this be checking the connection and operation or something more).

Answer:

1. Primarily checking connections and operation. However, if new equipment is required, such as motor and VFD, then electrical installation would be required from the disconnect.

2. TAB would only be required to adjust and set Outside Air and Return Air dampers in the mechanical room, as these would be fixed dampers, given the current system and proposed split damper assembly from #1, above.

3. There are no VAVs throughout the system, only manual dampers. (See attached drawing M1 Layout 2nd Floor.) We would want to set dampers to maximize supply and return airflow to the farthest reaches of the system, and to balance the supply airflow to the occupied office spaces. The centralized return is not the most efficient way of recirculating air from the building.

4. Through the VFD, belt drive, and Outside Air Fan Assist, we may have the ability to increase air circulation, along with OA ventilation.

5. This is termed “Limited” TAB, because the cost / benefit may require that only certain aspects be completed.

6. Chilled Water and Hot Water TAB is NOT required.
