Other repair parts used in non-routine service and repair are available as well. See §2.7 for a listing of the service kit.
Oxygen cleaning procedure (ref. 00036)
1.3.3.1 Introduction
This procedure refers to the STANAG 1449: Diving system – Oxygen Cleaning Procedures and Standards. This procedure provides instructions for Aqua Lung rebreather components using Enriched Air Nitrox or Oxygen. This procedure must be used in addendum to the service and repair manual for each individual product.
1.3.3.2 Generalities
They are several methods used for cleaning oxygen equipment described in STANAG 1449. Criteria for choosing the best one includes the followings: size and geometry of component, material compatibility.
As well, the cleaning agent must be compatible with material and source of contamination to be removed.
Technician protection, methods, equipments, cleaning agents must be in accordance with STANG 1449.
AQUA LUNG recommends a method for each of the steps noted below.
WARNING! HP hoses and HP gauges must not be cleaned during servicing. Indeed, the design of an HP hose (flow restrictor) and HP gauge (bourdon pipe) are not compatible with rinsing of the cleaning agent.
No products may enter inside the channel of gaseous. Servicing of those components is limited to replacement of O-rings.
CAUTION: Don’t use acid solution with rubber and plastic components.
1.3.3.3 Procedure
5 steps are required to guarantee a component ready for use with oxygen.
Aqua Lung recommends the methods described below from those available in STANAG 1449.
a. Pre cleaning
Pre cleaning with a small nylon brush and/or ultrasonic cleaner inside:
A phosphoric acid bath or aqueous cleaning solution for metallic parts.
An aqueous cleaning solution for rubber, plastic or bi-material metallic/plastic parts.
b. Cleaning Use an ultrasonic cleaner with a warm aqueous cleaning solution.
c. Rinsing Rinse with fresh water or demineralized water to remove cleaning solution.
d. Drying Let dry alone inside a controlled area or using a low pressure hydrocarbon-free gas (N2 or hydrocarbon-free air for oxygen compatibility)
e. Visual inspection Inspect under a strong light to check any signs of organic material, cleaning solution, dust, scale, humidity, chrome loss, or other contamination.
An ultraviolet light can also be used.
Unpowdered gloves must be worn during manipulation.

Sanitizing It is recommended that the equipment is disinfected after each dive, or at least with each change of user, in order to avoid the proliferation or transmission of viral or bacterial illness.
Sub-assemblies to be disinfected:
• Mouthpiece
• Corrugated hoses
• Basket of absorbent cartridge
• Bag and water trap
Disinfection procedure:
• Soak the parts for 20 mins in the disinfectant solution
• Rince the parts with clear water
• Dry the parts before reassembly
Lubrication Lightly lubricate all O-rings prior to installation using Christo-Lube MCG 111. Apply lubricant sparingly as excessive amounts can foul certain components.
Torque Specifications Specific components of the MODE require the use of a calibrated torque device and prescribed torque settings during reassembly. Proper torque specifications must be observed to ensure proper assembly and to prevent equipment damage. Torque specifications for MODE components are located in chapter 3.
NOTE: Calibrated torque device is not provided.
WARNING: DO NOT use muriatic acid for the cleaning of any parts. Muriatic acid, even when strongly diluted, can harm chrome plating, and may leave a residue that is harmful to O-ring seals and other parts.

MAINTENANCE POLICY
Scheduled maintenance for the MODE is based on the manufacturer’s recommendations and will ensure reliable and safe operation of the UBA. Scheduled maintenance requirements are integrated into operational procedures that are performed during pre-mission, pre-dive and post-dive checks (Chapter 3 of Operation manual).
3 levels of preventative maintenances will guarantee the safe operation of the apparatus throughout its operational life.
• After dive care
• Monthly preventative maintenance
• Annual preventative maintenance
Qualifications required to perform maintenance, other than pre-dive and post-dive procedures, are obtained after successful completion of the manufacturers MODE Technician Training course.
AFTER DIVE CARE
After dive care is the first level of maintenance.
It consists of the “Post Dive checklist”, Figure 3.4 and “Post Dive Procedure”, Table 3.4, located in Chapter 3 of Operation manual.
MONTHLY MAINTENANCE
Monthly preventative maintenance should be carried out regardless of the number of dives made with the apparatus.
This maintenance consists of:
• Complete visual examination of the apparatus o Remove the corrugated hoses and the mouthpiece o Remove the VRGA o Remove the absorbent cartridge
• Check the IP of the VRGA
ANNUAL PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE
The MODE breathing apparatus has been designed to allow intensive use during a whole year without any maintenance other than the regular post-dive care and the monthly IP.
An annual preventative maintenance is required to guarantee the optimum operation of the apparatus throughout its life.

CHAPTER 3 : CORRECTIVE MAINTENANCE AND
OVERHAUL PROCEDURES
WARNING! Properly performed maintenance by qualified MODE Technicians is an essential prerequisite to safe and dependable diving operations with the MODE UBA. Omission or negligent performance of prescribed maintenance procedures for this equipment may result in equipment failure, personal injury or death.
CAUTION: Only qualified MODE Technicians shall perform corrective maintenance on the MODE UBA.
NOTE: Prior to performing corrective maintenance actions, review general safety and environmental precautions located in chapter 1.
This chapter provides the detailed procedures that will be followed during corrective maintenance. Corrective maintenance restores a damaged or failed MODE to a serviceable, operational ready condition. Corrective maintenance is performed for repairable damage or when referenced by troubleshooting procedures located in chapter 3 of Operation manual.
Additionally, the following step-by-step procedures provide a means to accomplish MODE overhaul procedures that will be followed for scheduled maintenance as outlined in Chapter 1.
CORRECTIVE MAINTENANCE AND OVERHAUL PROCEDURES
Table 6-1 lists the sub assemblies for the maintenance for all of the MODE UBA components. Each maintenance action consists of a step-by-step “overhaul” procedure that covers applicable information such as; disassembly, cleaning, inspecting, lubricating, reassembly and testing.
Table 6-1 is also a companion to the scheduled maintenance listed in §4-4. The drawings found in chapter 3 that are associated with the various MODE components are listed in Table 6-1 as well and shall be used along with the overhaul procedures in this chapter.
If corrective or scheduled maintenance is required on MODE components, follow the preliminary disassembly procedures (Table 6-2) up to the point that you have isolated and removed the component that requires corrective maintenance. Once that component is repaired, follow the final assembly and testing procedures (Table 6-19) to reassemble and test the rig prior to restoring it to full service.
In the following procedures important torque specifications or other information that requires emphasis will be highlighted in bold red font. Examples: Do not lubricate HP seat or Torque burst plug to 1.2 m.kg.
