QUESTIONS – ANSWERS – 1-10 16 Jun 2016

QUESTIONS:

Question 1: Electrical plans sheet E-5 general note asks for 50 – 4”x4” holes to be drilled on the raised floor with grommets. Telecommunications sheet T-3 note 13 shows 60 holes with grommets.

Sheet E-5 counts 42 holes for flex to furniture and equipment. How many holes are needed?

Answer 1: 60 holes with grommets will be required.

Question 2: Sheet T3 notes #1 and #2 state “secure and non-secure cable tray beneath the floor”. The plans show them connected. Is there a better detail of what is being asked for? Where does the secure end and non-secure begin?

Answer 2: The cable tray beneath the floor to south should not be connect to the secure tray. The tray is part of the non-secure portion.

Question 3: Sheet T-1 note #4 states “all components shall be the product of a single manufacturer”.

Can the government suggest a manufacturer? Can the government provide a model #? Can the government provide a better explanation of the cable tray and ladder rack system?

Answer 3: The cable and ladder tray and be of any of manufacturer as long as it adheres to the specifications. Government request that all components associated will be that of a single manufacturer.

Question 4: Detail 7/C4 – “Ramp surface shall have a detectable warning as per shall comply with chapter 405 of the ABA code.” Is the entire surface of the sidewalk being covered with detectable warning strips, or just the landing? If just the landing, will a 24” wide strip be enough? Section 705 of the ADA Code states that the warning strips must be 24” wide and extend the length of the sidewalk.

Please advise.

Answer 4: To clarify, ABA (Architectural Barriers Act) design standards are to be used for all Federal buildings and not ADA criteria. As such, the surface of the ramp and level landing components shall be slip-resistant, which can be achieved by broom-finished concrete. No warning strips are required.

Question 5: On page E3 room 124 has no fixture designations, please advise.

Answer 5: Lighting fixtures in room 124 shall be type “L2A”.

Question 6: On page E8, note 13 it calls for a UL inspection on the new system the connects to an existing system, but not sure you can get a UL inspection without having the complete system inspected and not sure the existing system meets the code requirements? Please advise

Answer 6: The existing system was a UL inspected system at the time of installation. The new system shall connect to the existing system and the complete system shall be provided with a UL certification.

Question 7: On page E9 on the one line riser it shows a TVSS on panel 2A and 2B, but on page E10 on the panel schedules it does not show a breaker to connect these units. Please advise.

Answer 7: Provide one (1) 30/2 circuit breaker in each Panel 2A and 2B to serve TVSS units.

Question 8: On page E9 it calls for adding a new breaker in existing panel MDP and HC, but it gives no description of the manufacturer/type/etc. on the panels

Answer 8: Existing switchboard MDP is a Square D QED, 2500A, 480/277V switchboard. Sheet

Note #3 on Sheet E9 shall be revised to read “PROVIDE NEW 60A/3 POLE CIRCUIT BREAKER IN

EXISTING PANEL ELD TO SERVE NEW PANEL 2A.” Electrical Single Line Diagram on Sheet E9 shall be revised to indicate “EXISTING PANEL ELD” instead of “EXISTING PANEL HC”. Existing panel ELD is a Square D NQOD, 225A, 208Y/120V panelboard. New 60A/3 pole circuit breaker shall be installed in Panel “ELD-LEFT”.

Question 9: On page E 3 notes 1,2 calls for rooms 147 and 148 to have multi-zone dimming controls. I see the LV switches, but do not see where the controllers are located? Also there is no specifications/descriptions for the design of the lighting controllers other than note 1 and 2 on page E3

Answer 9: The basis of design for the low voltage switches (LV1, LV2) and the lighting control dimming relay (EPD) are indicated in the Electrical Legend on Sheet E0. These switches in combination with the dimming relays are the lighting controllers.

Question 10: Are there going to be duct detectors required? The units are over 2000 cfm and are typically required, but are not shown on the electrical and mechanical drawings? Please advise.

Answer 10: Provide fire alarm system duct mounted smoke detector in supply side of CRU-1 and

AHU-1.
