7.2. Applications shall not be conducted to excessively wet soils, during inclement weather, or at any time that shall result in decreased effectiveness of the treatment or movement of the pesticide from the site of application.

7.3. All wooden materials or wood containing products (forms, scrap lumber, etc.) shall be removed from next to the exterior foundation (solid monolithic slab on grade), and Exterior/interior foundation (pier and beam structures), interior piers, and crawl space areas to ensure that the building surfaces do not present an attraction site for subterranean termites to use as a suitable habitat for future infestations.

8. SPECIAL PROVISIONS: Any deviations from these requirements must be approved, in writing by the Supervisor, FSH Pest Control Shop, through the Contracting Officer.

8.1. The Contractor is responsible for ensuring that the individual or agency conducting the termiticides treatments is notified when the site is prepared for the vertical barrier.

9.1. Once the treatment has been accomplished, the soil shall not be disturbed.

10. SOIL CONDITIONS: To ensure penetration and stability of the termiticides, applications to excessively wet soils or during inclement weather are prohibited.

10.1. Compliance with specific handling and application instructions stated on the manufacturer's termiticides label is required.

11. CRAWL-SPACE TREATMENTS: Soil treatments are installed shall be treated by the trench or rodding method.

11.1. Trench Method. Apply the termiticides in a linear trench not exceeding six inches in width along the interior and exterior of the foundation walls, along piers and plumbing at rates specified on the label. . Emulsion shall be mixed with the soil as it is being replaced into the trench. Cover treated soil in trenches with a layer of treated soil.

11.2. Rodding Method. Apply the termiticides by rodding from grade to the top of the footing.

Rod holes shall be spaced at one foot intervals to provide a continuous barrier at application rates indicated on the product label.

12. SPECIAL FOUNDATION CONSIDERATIONS: Hollow block foundations or voids in masonry, when present, shall be treated in accordance with the label directions of the product used to ensure that a continuous chemical barrier is maintained in the voids at application rates consistent with label recommendations.

12.1. Soil treatments at grade beams to voids shall be done by pouring the treatment solution directly into the hollow spaces with application rates in accordance with label directions.

12.2. Soil treatments at expansion joints, control joints, and areas where the slabs shall be penetrated by pipes or other construction items shall be treated by rodding with application rates in accordance with label directions. The termiticides shall be rodded around all plumbing or other structures that penetrate the slab and could provide an entry for subterranean termites.

12.3. Soil treatments under pre-existing slabs shall consist of the termiticides being applied at rates and concentrations indicated on the label for the product used. The termiticides shall be applied uniformly under the entire slab.

12.4. This is a historical building. From a historical perspective, drilling in the floor is not an issue but the holes in the wall should not be in the stone but rather the mortar between the stones. Care should be taken to use the smallest drill bit necessary to apply the termiticides and holes shall be re-filled with mortar that is approximately the same color to match the existing material.

13. VERTICAL BARRIERS: A vertical barrier as prescribed by the termiticides products label shall be provided to meet the contract requirements for satisfactory compliance.

13.1. The vertical barrier shall be conducted after final grading has been completed.

13.2. The vertical barrier shall be accomplished by the Trench Method to ensure a consistent, continuous barrier is obtained around the entire perimeter of the structure.

14. RETREATMENTS: Reapplications of the termiticides shall occur to those treatment areas disturbed by subsequent excavation, landscape grading, or other construction activities following the initial application.

14.1. Re-treatments must be coordinated with the IPMC prior to any application of termiticides.

The IPMC shall determine if a re-treatment is required.

15. SITE REQUIREMENTS: When present, shall be so constructed to permit pesticide applicators sufficient access should future treatments become necessary.

15.1. All unused pesticides, empty pesticide containers and other related materials shall be removed from the installation for disposal in accordance with State of Texas, EPA, and DOD requirements at the end of each day. No overnight storage of pesticides allowed on the installation.

15.2. The Contractor shall ensure that all wood construction materials and wood containing products (forms, scrap lumber, etc.) which could decrease the effectiveness of the treatment or contribute to a subterranean termite infestation are removed from around the foundation, foundation piers, and the crawl space.

16. WARNING SIGNS AND SAFETY NOTIFICATIONS: The Applicator shall post warning signs in treatment area to warn non-application workers a chemical poison has been used to protect the structure. Warning signs shall contain the termiticides product data (to include pesticide ingredient) and application concentration. Copies of SDS and pesticide label information will be provided to the Building Manager to maintain.

16.1. The Applicator shall remove the warning signs when the treatment areas are covered or sealed by subsequent construction.

16.2. The Applicator shall affix a termite treatment notification sign to the completed structure, in the location specified by State of Texas Department of Agriculture Laws pursuant to pesticide applications for pre- or post-construction termite treatments.
