Section C Justification for Soliciting from a SingleSource or BrandNameRow1: As a Tier 1 AF video production facility, the 3d Audiovisual Sq (3dAVS) under the Air Force Public Affairs Agency (AFPAA), is charged with a multitude of unique public affairs responsibilities to include imagery documentation of AF warfighter & humanitarian relief, worldwide crises, contingencies, and joint military exercises. Purchase of the Sony brand will ensure compatibility with existing camera inventory, gamma-curve settings, available compression/decompression & advanced upgradeable components. Current investment in Sony equipment includes lenses, SxS Cards, recorders, and various cameras valued over . Newly acquired cameras need to match current inventory to ensure consistency in production, quality, and technical functionality. Additionally, previous significant investment in E-Mount and PL-Mount cinema lenses can be used with the Sony Venice without incurring additional expenses. Sony Venice supports the required Gamma-curve setting of S-Log3 needed for mission accomplishment. Finally, the Sony Venice is the only professional camera to feature the required upgradeable sensor, allowing upgrade of the sensor versus purchasing a new camera when sensor upgrades are required. Purchase of any camera other than the Sony Venice would require significant additional purchases in order to make production mission successful.
SectionD Efforts to Obtain CompetitionRow1: The Sony Venice was compared to similar professional cameras. Thorough research was accomplished online as well as during trade show demonstrations. Competitor cameras could not meet the 3dAVS' requirements for high-end production cameras. However, AFPAA and its Audiovisual Squadrons will continue to evaluate different vendors offerings before making the decision on which system will be used to replace obsolete systems. AFPAA has an Equipment Review Panel that meets several times a year wherein future equipment requirements are discussed and units test equipment to evaluate them against each other.
Section E Steps to Preclude Future Single Source or BrandName AwardsRow1: As indicated in Section D above, AFPAA will continue to evaluate & test other manufacturer's products through trade shows & Equipment Panel reviews conducted by in-house subject matter experts. This will ensure that we are poised to take advantage of any new market offerings in the event the current equipment system becomes obsolete, or the quality and functional capability of other manufacturer's products is so significantly advanced as to offset the costs of investing in an entirely new brand of digital camera equipment and related accessories.
