About this file
This document is a Questions and Answers file for a PMEL (Precision Measurement Equipment Laboratory) Workbenches solicitation issued by the Department of the Air Force Air Education and Training Command. The Q&A session covers detailed specifications for laboratory workbenches, including table dimensions (12-foot-long, 4' deep), leg configurations, drawer systems, power strip requirements, and butcher block top specifications. Key clarifications include confirming a minimum of 2-4 leg pairs, undermounted drawer systems approximately 16"W x 20"D x 16"H, 12-outlet power strips mountable to the bench's underside, a riser positioned at the back edge, removable center post between doors, and butcher block tops with a standard 1-3/4" thickness. Vendors were also advised that the large 48" x 144" tops can be manufactured as two separate pieces joined with fasteners for easier handling.

Q&A PMEL Workbenches Q&A Version 2 Date 23 September 2025
| Question # | Date Received | Question | Response |
| 1 | 09/16/25 | Attachment 1 specifies 12-foot-long tables but does not indicate the number of legs. Typically, a 12-foot table requires three legs for adequate support. Could you confirm the required leg configuration? | We would require at least 4 legs for the table’s stability while under load.Minimum of 2 leg pairs or four single load bearing point legs. Maximum of 4 leg pairs or 8 single load bearing point legs. |
| 2 | 09/16/25 | The attachment references two undermounted 3-drawer systems but does not provide details regarding design, location (beyond “undermount”), size, or drawer depth. Could you give these specifications? | The drawer system should be approximately 16”W X 20”D X 16”H to be mounted to the underside of the main work surface each drawer should be no more than 6”H. |
| 3 | 09/16/25 | For the minimum of 12 power strips, could you clarify the desired installation location—on the backside of the tabletop, or mounted beneath the riser shelf? | The power strips need to have 12 outlets each and be able to be mounted to the bench either to the under side of the riser or the back of the main work surface. |
| 4 | 09/19/25 | The table is listed as 4’ deep, with a riser that is 2’ deep. Should the riser be centered on the table, or positioned toward the back edge? | The riser should be positioned to the back edge. |
| 5 | 09/19/25 | Does the center post between the doors remove? We need to confirm this to determine if the table can fit through the doorway fully assembled, or if it will need to ship knocked down and be assembled on site. | Yes, the center post to doors is removable. It would be much easier to get into the rooms if it’s knocked down and assembled on site. |
| 6 | 09/23/25 | Regarding the specifications for the butcher block tops. The standard thickness is 1-3/4”, is that what you require for these benches? Also, should the riser top be 1-3/4” thick as well? | Yes, the risers should be the same thickness. |
| 7 | 09/23/25 | Considering the size of the main tops at 48” x 144”, they're quite large and heavy. Would you prefer if we make these as two separate pieces (each 1-3/4” x 48” x 72”) that can be joined together with fasteners to form the single large 144” top? | Having them be 2 separate pieces joined with fasteners is fine. |
