About this file
This document is a Questions and Answers (Q&A) file for a Laser Cutter/Engraver solicitation from the Department of the Air Force Space Command. The Q&A addresses two key technical specifications for potential vendors. First, the document clarifies that deep burning of steel is not required, and marking compounds can be used to mark steel surfaces. Second, regarding the CO2 laser, the government intentionally did not specify an exact wattage requirement, stating only that the wattage must be sufficient to perform the cutting and marking operations detailed in the base document. The material rating specifications require the laser to be capable of cutting and marking up to 18ga stainless steel and marking/cutting polymers up to 0.500" thick, including clear acrylics.

Questions & Answers
1. The only specification we can't meet on this one is in-depth engraving of steel without a coating; would they be open to using a marking spray or would the metal have any coating the laser can remove?
Answer: Deep burning of steel is not required. Marking compound(s) can be used to mark steel.
2. We would need to know the power wattage required by the client for the CO2 laser.
Answer: Wattage must be enough to perform the cutting and marking operations requested in the base document. Specific wattage was not highlighted so as to not limit machine/vendor selection.
