Questions and Answers 2
1. Question: “What detection equipment (type/model) do you currently have in your inventory? We assume you will want to ensure your personnel have an understanding of how it operates, when it is appropriate to use?”
a. The intention is not to be trained on how to operate a specific piece of equipment or system model.
b. It is our intention that employees understand the theories behind the detection systems listed in the Statement Of Work (SOW). Our technicians/operators will receive additional training on specific systems from the manufacturer.
c. Refer to Glenn F. Knoll’s Radiation Detection and Measurement 4th edition book.
2. Question: “Some of the material will require calculus based explanation/review. Do you want/prefer a calculus based class? (It is obviously the difference in real physics and physics for the math impaired we often see taught in most universities today for the non hard science students.)”
a. While many of the students would prefer a calculus based class, we must keep the class at a level to include the “Math Impaired” as much as possible.
3. Question: “Are these students AF civilians or airmen/officers?”
a. All the above
4. Question: “At the end of the 5 day class what would you prefer/require: 1) graded exam over all material, 2) graded exam over certain material, or 3) no exam at the end of the course?”
a. No exam is required at the end of the course.
b. This does not mean exams cannot be provided for personnel to test themselves or be assigned as homework.
5. Question: “Does the command have any issue with two instructors e.g. one instructor covers practical application topics, and one does theory?”
a. As listed in the SOW, instructor(s) qualifications (combined is authorized) are listed below
i. Minimum of 5 years experience in radiation shielding, transport and spectrometry.
ii. Minimum of 5 years actively engaged in nuclear engineering education and research.
iii. Minimum of 5 years experience in neutron transport, measurement and dosimetry.
iv. Minimum of 5 years experience with a variety of measurement techniques including ionization measurements and moderating neutron detection methods.
v. Minimum of 5 years experience in reactor physics, and computational methods.
