Questions and Answers

Version 1

1. Core: What cell size? Does it need to be aerospace grade?

Answer: Aluminum honeycomb core density should be 6-10lbs/cubic foot. So that should determine the cell size. Yes, we need to use aerospace grade aluminum…there are various aerospace grade aluminum alloys that will meet the requirement (examples are: 2024, 3003, 5052, 6061, 7050, 7068, 7075, but not limited to those).

2. Will the prepreg plain weave carbon above suffice for this application? How many plies of carbon are required per side?

Answer: Prepeg plain weave is acceptable. The number of layers required is that needed to satisfy previously identified strength requirements.

3. Can we use our stock film adhesive?

Answer: Adhesives must be compatible with the resin used. Any resin meeting the requirement is fine.
