EAFB-001 TITLE: Aluminum Honeycomb Resin Skin Aerospace Sandwich Panel
Fabrication
TECHNOLOGY AREA(S): Aircraft Components
ACQUISITION PROGRAM: 96 Test Wing Aircraft Panels
OBJECTIVE: The 96 RANSS Targets Flight requires aluminum honeycomb resin skin aerospace sandwich panels be fabricated for use in test events.
96 RANSS Targets Flight is pursuing a solution that the submittal firm substantiates a present ability to:
1) Flat Panels shall have a 1.5” aluminum honeycomb core
2) Density of the core shall be 6-10 lbs/cubic foot
3) Each face will be carbon fiber with no preferred weave type, using a thermoset epoxy resin resulting in with a Young’s modulus (aka. Tensile modulus) of 42 MSI and a final thickness of at most .12” for each face.
4) Resin used must be compatible with the liquid adhesive used.
5) Finished thickness must not be greater than 1.75”.
6) Minimum quantities of Mock Aircraft Panel are as follows
a. 6 each 2’ x 8’ panels
b. 3 each 2’ x 10’ panels
c. 3 each 4’ x 9’ panels
7) Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and associated data report shall be provided to the
Government to ensure material meets the above specifications.
8) Delivery to Eglin AFB shall be less than or equal to 90 calendar days for proposed quantities
Given the 96 RANSS Targets Flight budget constraints; an innovative solution meeting this requirement is required. A higher quantity of panels and innovative manufacturing methods (such as alternative resin types) to accelerate the delivery timeline will be assessed using the evaluation criteria in the solicitation based on the objectives above.
