F4D3D94216A001 Acid Wash Water Well Degasifers Questions & Answers 18 Sep 2014
Question 1: Is there a sand filter associated with the stripper(s)? If so please provide technical data on these devices.
Answer 1: No sand filtration occurs at Vandenberg AFB (VAFB).
Question 2: Please provide a comprehensive water assessment. I would like to know pH as well as the concentration of sulfur containing compounds like hydrogen sulfide and Volatile Organic Compounds too.
Answer 2: Attached is the latest Vandenberg AFB Annual Drinking Water Quality Report. There is a specific column for the San Antonio Well Water (SA Well Water) and associated water quality parameters. pH is neutral ~7
Question 3: Packing treatment for dissolved solids and/or organics will require the addition of chemicals. Is there an access port through which I can introduce the chemicals? If so what size and where is it located?
Answer 3: There is a hatch at the top of the degasifier where chemicals could be injected as well as a man-way on the side of each unit towards the bottom of the packing.
Question 4: Treatment will require 115 volt single phase power. I suspect we will need to bring our own. Please advise?
Answer 4: Per the Statement of Work, contractor will need to furnish their own generator.
Question 5: Is there sufficient access at the strippers to bring in a semi-trailer vacuum truck to within 15' of a connection to the stripper sump for the removal of spent cleaning solution?
Answer 5: Yes. However, if the contractor is required to supply their own truck, coordination with the Government point of contact is highly recommended to provide the length of the unit to ensure there is sufficient access to each unit. See the Statement of Work regarding the possibility of a Government provided vehicle.
Question 6: Do you want to have both of the strippers treated in succession during one service call?
Answer 6: Two wells and one degasifier will need to stay in operation at all times. More than likely, you will have to do one then move to the other.
Question 7: Packing cleaning will generate gases. Typically these are not regulated compounds, but there is no way to know unless we test a sample of the packing. We can provide the sample testing and/or a carbon adsorber to capture the gases generated during cleaning. Is there an interest in this?
Answer 7: No, there is no interest in sample testing.
Additional Questions dated 25 September 2014
Question 8: Is a 40 foot truck too long?
Answer 8: Yes, a 40’ truck is too long because the access road is very narrow with many turns and there is limited room at the site to turn the truck around.
Question 9: How many miles is it from the main gate of the base to the stripper site?
Answer 9: Approximately 3 miles.
