STATEMENT OF WORK
FOR
XUMUOS100012b – Honda Creek Eucalyptus Removal
AT
Vandenberg AFB, CA
I. PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Blue gum eucalyptus (Eucalyptus globulus) has been planted worldwide because, in part, of its rapid growth rate, which is accompanied by rapid water uptake. Dense eucalyptus groves also displace native plant communities and wildlife, significantly altering biological diversity. The project would remove eucalyptus from Canada Honda Creek on south Vandenberg Air Force Base (Figure 1).
Tasking The contractor shall fell eucalyptus trees located along Honda Creek on south Vandenberg AFB (Figure 1). Approximately 6.0 acres of eucalyptus of various size classes occur in this area from two adjacent groves (Table 1). The western grove, a minimum of 2.5 acres of eucalyptus, is expected to be removed although that may vary depending on funding. Cut trees shall be limbed and stock piled in the staging area in a manner that prevents impacts to the creek. Equipment may be left in the staging area for the duration of the project. Tree stumps shall be cut at knee height and left in place. Treatment of the stumps to prevent re-growth will be accomplished under a separate contract. Smaller diameter trees will be chipped and broadcasted or stock piled. Stock pilled materials shall be removed by the government at no additional cost to the contractor. The contractor shall provide an hourly rate which should reflect all management, tools, supplies, equipment, and labor necessary to remove the trees. The contractor shall also estimate the number of hours to remove each of the two groves identified.
