Answers To Vendor Questions 07 Sep 2011

Q: To be sure you are looking for 225w panels with mini grid tie scenario on light existing light poles? Basically you would like to tie these into the ckts of each light? Why not just mount them on a roof that would serve the same purpose at a much lower cost, still offsets the demand of the lights.

Can you explain further please?

A: Yes, 225w panels on existing light poles. A couple of the problems with roof mount – 1. Have to ensure that roof selected can support weight of panels. 2. Ensure that mounting panels on roof will not invalidate roof warranty 3. Roof mounted solar is not highly visible 4. We are installing these panels as more of a technology demo/test

Q: Does the Scope of Work for this solicitation include obtaining required permits? If so, what permitting authority(ies) have jurisdiction?

A: Not aware of any permit requirements

Q: Please clarify if this is a new project or are you requesting in the spec's for us to dig trenches for the poles? Will the actual PV panels use a battery operated system, or will the power be fed to the micro grid directly?

A: This is a new project. Trenching should not be required since we are using existing circuitry in the light poles. Batteries are not required. Power fed to grid.

Q:Will wiring/trenching be required as a part of the bid?
A:Wiring yes, trenching no.

Q: Given the existence of on site lighting poles, would you prefer a system that is mounted above the poles, or a side PV mount system?

A: No sure what you mean by “side PV mount.” The vendor will mount the panels on the poles and will orient them properly to maximize the output of the panels.
