DESCRIPTION OF THE REQUIREMENT FOR REQUISITION
F3QTBJ6309AW01-01: MUSEUM QUALITY DISPLAY CASES
1. PURPOSE AND DESCRIPTION OF THE SUPPLIES/SERVICES REQUIRED
The purpose for these museum-quality display cases is the exhibition/display of historical artifacts representing 100 years of Air Force Reserve history. These displays support Chief of the Air Force Reserve directed heritage education and outreach programs.
Case requirements are for modern, stable, secure museum cases that will best protect and display artifacts on exhibit in a reasonably consistent museum environment to meet the obligation to preserve artifacts through effective stewardship.
Title 16 USC §469-470, et. seq., the National Historic Preservation Act, and AFI 84-103 are the overarching authorities that impel adherence to recognized professional museum standards.
These standards stem from best professional practices as called for in AFI 84-103 (22 May 2015), chapter 7 and attch 4. Specifically, the obligation to preserve through effective stewardship, which includes display case standards, as described in paragraph 7.1, page 46. Paragraphs 7.2.1 through 7.2.9.
The American Alliance of Museums (AAM), which is the accrediting organization for museums in the USA, and the American Association for State and Local History (AASLH) have established the industry recognized standards for display cases, drawn from many decades of professional experience, and represent the most developed and responsible thought in the field of museology, preservation, interpretation, and exhibition design, and execution according to curators at the National Museum of the United States Air Force.
