About this file

This document is a Questions and Answers (Q&A) file for a demolition project involving Buildings 1121 and 1131 at McConnell Air Force Base. The project involves demolishing two buildings and a tower, with key details including a 180-calendar day period of performance (PoP) contingent on funding availability. Contractors must be aware that funds are not currently available for the project, and an award will not be made until funding is secured.

Specific requirements include equipment inspection at the west gate, a designated laydown area for overnight equipment storage, and specific electrical conductor removal protocols. The tower is approximately 96 feet high, and no as-built information is available. Contractors must pull back and remove electrical conductors, cut conduits below grade, seal them, and abandon them in place. All equipment entering the base requires inspection, and a free zone letter will be provided for contractors.

Q&A for Demolition of Buildings 1121 & 1131

A- Government will provide a free zone letter and a designated laydown area near the worksite for contractors to leave equipment overnight. All equipment entering the base must be inspected at the west gate before gaining access.

Q- Is there any as built on the Tower for weights and dimensions to aid in our plan to lower the tower?

A- Unfortunately, there is no as-built information available for the tower. However, the tower is approximately 96 feet in height.

Q- On building 1121 and tower, it says all electrical conductors must be returned to the source. Does that mean removed in-tact and returned to McConnell staff as it is found on site? Or can it be cut up for removal?

A – No, the conductors do not need to be returned to McConnell. All electrical conductors must be pulled back and removed. The conduits at the building should be cut below grade, sealed, and then abandoned in place.
