About this file
This is a Questions and Answers document addressing procurement clarifications for Twin XL beds.
The solicitation requires 30 Twin XL beds constructed of solid oak (plywood is not acceptable) with specific dimensional tolerances of plus or minus 1 inch per dimension due to tight quarters installation space. Reference pictures of a full-size bed model are available in Amendment 4 Attachment, which the contractor must adapt to Twin XL specifications. The beds must have the capability to be bunked as separate units (not as one integrated unit), though they will not be bunked upon installation. Each bed features three slats at both ends that serve as climbing steps, allowing occupants to sleep in the highest bed position if desired. Drawers must be positioned underneath the bed at the bottom for easy access and shall remain unattached to allow for mobility. The drawers require the capability to be secured with padlocks (padlocks themselves are not supplied by the contractor and will be provided by end users). No deviations from specifications beyond the stated dimensional variance are permitted.

Text version
1. Do these beds match any existing beds and if so, can we get pictures?
Pictures are included with the Amendment, in Attachment 4. These pictures are of a full size bed, however this requirement is for the same bed to be in Twin XL.
2. Are these bunk beds for sure, it says in the bed requirements “beds cannot be bunked”
The beds can have the ability to be bunked, however they cannot be one whole unit. 30 beds are required, not 15. These beds will not be bunked upon installation.
3. On the drawers for the locks, are they wanting locks or padlocks
The drawers need to have the ability to be locked with a pad lock should the unit member want to lock the drawer. Pad locks are not apart of the requirement and the individual would supply.
4. Solid oak construction, can we use oak plywood
Construction needs to be of solid oak. Oak Plywood is not acceptable.
5. If the beds are not to be bunked, why a ladder
The ladder is not a standalone ladder. At the end of each bed on both ends, are three slats to climb up, allowing the individual to sleep in the highest position of the bed should they choose.
6. As it relates to the dimensions, the dimensions listed are allowed a variance of 1 inch for each dimension. No other deviation from the variance and dimensions is permitted for this requirement, with the space these are going in to being tight quarters.
7. Where will the drawers go? In a lockbox underneath not attached?
The drawers will go underneath the bed at the bottom for ease of access. They will not be attached to allow for them to move should they choose to do so.
