About this file
This is an exhibit document detailing signage replacement specifications for the Zulu Sign Project at Buckley Air Space Force Base in Colorado, prepared for the 140th Civil Engineering division. The project encompasses the replacement of multiple taxiway and pad signage arrays at Runway/Taxiway Z, including five distinct sign locations: the Z Pad/Taxiway Signage area (requiring replacement of an 18-foot by 4-foot by 12-inch deep concrete base and a new L-858 Size 3 3-step LED sign), the Mandatory Sign Array west of Z Pad (L-858 Size 3 3-step LED), the Mandatory/Location Sign Array east of Z Pad (L-858 Size 3 5-step LED with repositioned directional markers), the Mandatory/Location Sign Array at the Runway/Taxiway Z intersection (L-858 Size 3 5-step LED), and the Directional Sign Arrays on both the south and north sides of the intersection (L-858 Size 3 5-step LED). All existing signs are to be removed and replaced with new LED signage featuring updated legends where applicable.
All signs must comply with FAA standards including L-858Y(L), L-858R(L), L-858L(L), L-858H(L), and L-858B(L) designations, AC 150/5345-44 standards, and FAA Engineering Brief No. 67. The signs must be ETL certified and compatible with both ferroresonant and thyristor Constant Current Regulators, operate on 3-step, 5-step, and 1-step CCRs with current loads between 2.8 and 6.6 amperes, and include lightning protection compliant with FAA Engineering Brief No. 67D and ANSI/IEEE standards. Required construction materials include non-ferrous aluminum frames, stainless-steel hardware, impact-resistant modified acrylic legend panels, and retroreflective sheeting. All signs must include tethers on all legs, external grounding lugs, and no external power switches. Contractors are required to submit sign legend proofs to 140th Civil Engineering for review and approval prior to ordering new signage.
