About this file

This document is a technical specification exhibit for the Zulu Sign Project at Buckley Air Force Space Force Base in Colorado, prepared by the 140th Civil Engineering division. The project involves the replacement of existing airfield signage at Taxiway Z, including removal and replacement of five sign arrays located at the Z Pad/Taxiway intersection and surrounding areas. The scope encompasses removal of existing 18-foot by 4-foot by 12-inch deep concrete bases and installation of new L-858 LED signs in either 3-step or 5-step configurations, with updated legend panels where applicable. All signage must be relocated or repositioned in specific locations, including arrays on the west side of Z Pad, east side of Z Pad, at the Runway/Taxiway Z intersection (both north and south directional arrays), and the Z Apron area.

The specified signs must comply with FAA standards including L-858Y(L), L-858R(L), L-858L(L), L-858H(L), and L-858B(L) per AC 150/5345-44 and FAA Engineering Brief No. 67, and must be ETL certified. All signs require non-ferrous aluminum frames with stainless-steel hardware, retroreflective sheeting, impact-resistant modified acrylic legend panels, lightning protection compliant with FAA Engineering Brief No. 67D and ANSI/IEEE C62.41-1991, external grounding lugs, and tethers on all legs with no external power switches. The contractor is required to submit sign legend proofs to 140th Civil Engineering for review and approval prior to ordering new signs. The signage must be compatible with both ferroresonant and thyristor constant current regulators operating on 2.8 to 6.6 amperes across all CCR steps.
