1. The hardware sets listed above represent the design intent and direction of the Owner and Architect. They are a guideline only and should not be considered a detailed hardware schedule.
Discrepancies, conflicting hardware and missing items should be brought to the attention of the Architect with corrections.
2. These Hardware Sets indicate requirements for single doors of that type, with conditional requirements for pairs and other situations.
3. Pairs of Swinging Doors: Provide one of each specified item on each leaf unless specifically stated otherwise. Treat pairs as two active leaves unless otherwise indicated.
4. See Section 08 71 00 of the Specifications for more information and requirements for Door Hardware. The Specifications contain the detailed requirements for each type of component listed in this Schedule.
5. Suffixes to Hardware Set number generally, but not always, indicate the following:
A: Automatic
F: Fire-rated (or non-rated condition where closer is required)
P: Protection (Armor plates, kick plates, edge guards, etc.)
R: Rescue: Releasable stop and pivots
H: Hospital (special features)
I: Intruder (Special features)
6. Provide a lock for every door, unless door is specifically indicated as not requiring locking.
7. Provide a latch for every door that is not required to lock, unless specifically indicated “push/pull” or “not required to latch”.
8. Hardware sets indicate locking functions required for each door. Details and requirements for common hardware work (hinges, stops, silencers, etc.) are described in the specifications.
9. If no hardware set is indicated for a swinging door provide an office lockset and ask the Architect for further clarification.
10. Provide lever handle or pull trim on outside of all doors unless specifically stated to have no outside trim.
11. Provide key access on the outside of all locks unless specifically stated to have no locking or no outside trim.
12. Electrically operated locks shall fail secure unless otherwise indicated or prohibited by Building Code.
13. See Section 08 71 00 of the Specifications for requirements for lock cylinders.
14. Provide hinges in proper quantity and type for all swinging doors except were pivots are indicated or required due to door weight, configuration, or operation, as follows:
A. Doors from 60 inches high to 90 inches high: Three (3) hinges;
B. Doors 90 inches high to 120 inches high: Four (4) hinges;
C. Doors 120 inches high and more: One (1) additional hinge for each additional 30 inches in height.
D. 48 inch wide doors shall have a minimum of four (4) hinges.
E. Unless specified otherwise, provide five knuckle full mortise hinges. Requirements in the Specifications shall take precedence over this requirement.
F. Provide ball-bearing hinges at all doors having closers.
G. See Section 08 71 00 of the Specifications for additional requirements.
15. Provide a door closer on every exterior door and fire and/or smoke rated door. Spring hinges are not an acceptable self-closing device unless specifically so indicated.
16. Provide wall stops at all swing doors unless otherwise indicated. If wall stops are not practical due to door location, configuration of adjacent walls or room or furnishings and equipment, provide an overhead stop.
17. Provide a threshold at every exterior door unless otherwise indicated.
18. Provide power required for all electrically operated door hardware, whether a circuit is identified for the opening on the Electrical Drawings or not. If a circuit is not identified on the drawings, request clarification from the Architect. Under no circumstances will additional time or additional cost be allowed based on an unidentified electrical circuit for door hardware that is indicated to require an electrical connection.
19. Provide products complying with door function and all applicable codes and standards as described in the specifications, section 08 71 00, for fire-rated, smoke-rated, and lead lined doors.
20. Provide gasketing in compliance with UL 1784 for rooms designated as "Isolation", "Ante-room", or rooms that have a pressure differential requirement.
