About this file
This is a guidance document from the State of Texas, specifically the Statewide Procurement Division (SPD) and Texas Department of Information Resources, detailing the Veteran Heroes United in Business (VetHUB) Search Assistance program and the NIGP Commodity/Services Code system used for state procurement classification. The NIGP code system, developed by the National Institute of Governmental Purchasing, organizes procurements into two primary categories: commodity and product codes numbered 001 to 899, and service codes numbered 900 to 999. Examples of commodity codes include compressors and microcomputers, while service codes cover areas such as business consulting and right-of-way services. The document directs respondents and bidders to use the NIGP classitem numbering and descriptions found in the official commodity book to properly categorize their products or services.
The Centralized Master Bidders List (CMBL), maintained by the State of Texas, serves as a master database enabling state purchasing entities to develop mailing lists for vendor notification of relevant bid opportunities based on the products or services they are capable of providing. Bidders are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the NIGP format and contents to effectively utilize both the CMBL search function and vendor resources available through the state's procurement system. Additional reference materials and search capabilities are available through the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts website at mycpa.cpa.state.tx.us, which provides access to both the commodity book and CMBL search portal.
