About this file

This specification document details the VantageRadius radar detection system and related components for intersection traffic management, applicable to Texas state and local procurement. The VantageRadius system offers two sensor types—the standard VantageRadius sensor head for stop bar detection and the VantageRadius+ sensor head with both stop bar and advance detection capabilities. The system utilizes 4D, high-resolution radar technology operating at 24 GHz frequency with detection ranges up to 325 feet for the standard sensor and 600 feet for the VantageRadius+ sensor, capable of tracking up to 64 objects with speed accuracy of ±1 mph. The integrated high-resolution digital camera provides live video streaming for intersection monitoring with a 1.3MP sensor and 70-degree viewing angle, viewable through the Iteris Video Viewer mobile application or traffic management center displays. Additional components specified include universal camera mounting brackets constructed from aluminum with horizontal and vertical orientation options, and CAT5E 350MHz outdoor direct burial cable rated for underground installation with shielded construction and waterblock tape protection.

The specification encompasses all technical parameters for system installation, including sensor head dimensions of 6.5"W x 5.5"T x 8.5"D with 3-pound weight and IP67-rated environmental protection. Power requirements are 48VDC at 5W maximum for the sensor head, with processor options available in 12 or 24 VDC configurations. The system supports up to 64 total outputs and 64 total inputs using extension modules, with operating temperature range from -35°F to +165°F and compliance with NEMA TS-2 standards and FCC Part 15 Class A regulations. A three-year limited warranty is provided with the equipment. The cable specifications indicate 1000-foot spool increments with performance tested to 350MHz, meeting TIA/EIA-568-C.2 Category 5e standards with maximum attenuation of 44.9dB/100m at 350MHz, suitable for direct burial applications in outdoor plant environments.

VantageRadius®

Radar technology and streaming video for stop bar and advance detection

4D / HD radar presence detection with choice of two sensor types

The VantageRadius® system has a choice of two sensor types – the VantageRadius sensor head, designed specifically for stop bar detection at the intersection, and the VantageRadius+ sensor head with the same stop bar detection capabilities but with added advance detection.

The VantageRadius and VantageRadius+ sensor heads can be installed together at a single intersection allowing for flexibility in designing the right detection for specific traffic engineering needs. VantageRadius and VantageRadius+ sensor heads utilize the latest 4D, high-resolution radar technology, incorporating distance, speed, angle and height measurements to accurately detect vehicles approaching the intersection in any weather condition.

Detection in any weather condition

Forward-fire radar for accurate vehicle detection range up to 600 feet – eliminating occlusion

High resolution video streaming for intersection monitoring

State-of-the-art radar and enhanced detection algorithms allow VantageRadius to accurately detect vehicles and speeds as they approach the intersection, enabling the intersection to operate at peak efficiency. The system is built on the simple-to-use Vantage Next® platform and continues the Iteris tradition of ease of installation and simple configuration.

Monitor your intersection with live video stream

The VantageRadius and VantageRadius+ sensors include an integrated high-resolution digital camera to stream live video back to a central management location, providing agencies with the ability to monitor and take action on the operation of their intersection. This video stream can also replace or augment existing surveillance cameras to view live video on a traffic management center video wall or the Iteris Video Viewer mobile application.
