Background
Over the past 8 years, the Food and Drug Administraon (FDA) has invested millions of dollars towards the accreditaon of state food tesng laboratories for the ISO/IEC 17025:2005 Standard. This investment has been crical to protect the U.S. food supply by enabling food recalls in order to directly protect the public health of Texans.
In July 2016, the DSHS Laboratory achieved food tesng accreditaon through the American Associaon for Laboratory Accreditaon (A2LA) for ISO/IEC 17025:2005 Standards as a result of compleng A2LA's Food and Pharmaceucal Tesng Laboratory Accreditaon Program. In order to maintain A2LA accreditaon, the DSHS Laboratory must abide by A2LA requirements for the newly adopted ISO/IEC 17025:2017 Standard. Without A2LA accreditaon, Texas' food supply could be negavely impacted.
Contractor must provide an accreditaon officer who will ensure noficaon of updated assessment requirements and provide support for the lab's proficiency tesng plan.
Every other year Contractor must conduct an in-person or virtual assessment of the DSHS Laboratory to verify compliance with A2LA requirements. DSHS will cover travel expenses and travel the for the assessor. Upon verificaon that A2LA requirements have been met, the Contractor must provide a valid A2LA accreditaon cerficate to the DSHS Laboratory for microbiology food tesng and chemistry food tesng.
Due to regulatory requirements, the contractor that performs this work must be able to provide A2LA accreditaon for ISO 17025:2017.
Training associated with A2LA requirements and IS0/IEC 17025 Standards is out of scope of this solicitaon.
