About this file
This is Amendment No. 1 to Invitation for Bids (IFB) IW204601 issued by the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) Contracts and Procurement Department for the Huntsville Unit. The amendment contains questions and answers regarding the procurement of 500 fire extinguishers, and extends the bid opening date from December 23, 2024 at 3:00 PM to January 09, 2025. Key clarifications include that alternates or TDCJ-approved equals are accepted, the units must be delivered in a single delivery rather than multiple shipments, and all fire extinguishers must be inspected and properly tagged per State of Texas requirements.
The amendment clarifies that the fire extinguishers will be used in automobiles rather than marine applications, and vendors may submit multiple bids with different options. While historical pricing information is not available, vendors must include specification sheets with their submissions. The specified manufacturers include Pye Barker (part #43873) and Ansul (#429101), with alternatives permitted if they meet requirements. Vendors must acknowledge receipt of this amendment either on the face of their bid or by returning a signed copy of the notice to be considered for award.

Q. From what the manufacturer with Kidde is inquiring to is that if the unit requires a Marine model, which would apply for boats. Based on the USCG requirements, there are other options that we can consider as we would be able to substitute from the original materials requested. So with the spec sheets that were sent over they are advising that the 2nd option should meet the requirement but we’d like to be certain as that way we can get the best lead time.
A. The units will be going in automobiles, not marine. All vendors are to submit their best offer including a submittal by the opening date of the Invitation to Bids. Vendors are allowed to submit more than one bid.
