About this file
This is a detailed technical specification document from the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) for the procurement of a Superpave Gyratory Compactor, specification number TxDOT 845-63-42465, dated November 2024. The equipment must be a new laboratory gyratory compactor that creates cylindrical specimens from loose hot mix asphalt through vertical consolidation pressure and gyratory effort. The specification requires the compactor to come with three 150mm mold assemblies, operate at specific angles and pressures, include built-in data recording capabilities, and meet AASHTO T312 and ASTM D6925 standards. The manufacturer must provide a minimum of two hours of training on safety, operation, and maintenance, along with a 12-month/1,200-hour warranty covering 100% parts and labor.
The equipment must be delivered with a complete set of manuals, calibration tools, and accessories including paper discs, funnels, and specimen lift handles. The compactor must operate on standard 110/115 VAC power and weigh a minimum of 880 pounds. While no specific pricing requirements are mentioned, the specification emphasizes that only new equipment will be accepted - no used, shopworn, demonstrator, prototype, remanufactured, or reconditioned models are permitted. The vendor must have an authorized dealer within Texas with factory-trained personnel available for warranty repairs and maintain an inventory of parts. The specification also includes environmental considerations, encouraging suggestions for future environmental enhancements within statutory purchasing constraints.
