Background/ Brief Explanation for Award

PB-ITS is implementing the Central Facilities Repository (CFR) to centralize all current building information. The data will be leveraged for various facilities projects, including operations and maintenance, renovation, and additions. The CFR allows users to view building information model (BIM) information as 3D PDF files on any device that can access the CFR without installing specialized BIM software on those devices. This capability increases the accessibility of BIM information and improves general efficiency for CFR users. However, the CFR team currently must manually create 3D PDF files and set access rights for each file whenever new IFC files are added to the CFR.

GSA evaluated 3 other similar products – PDF3D, Bluebeam, and Safe Software. We found that PDF3D and Bluebeam did not offer the desired 3D PDF conversion capabilities, and that Safe Software is overly complicated. Therefore, when GSA planned the procurement of the Tetra 4D desktop software it now uses, it intended to also procure the compatible server tool from Tetra 4D. In addition, Tetra4D was the only official carrier for the Adobe 3D PDF specification.

Since the server tool is now a ProStep product, GSA must now procure the server tool from ProStep.
