About this file

This is a Quick Start Guide from SAM.gov that outlines the step-by-step process for registering an entity to become eligible for government contracts. The guide details the 10 key steps required for registration, including creating a personal account, validating DUNS information, entering business and tax information, completing core data, assertions, representations and certifications, and points of contact.

The document specifies essential prerequisites like obtaining a DUNS number (1-2 business days for processing) and Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN). It notes that registration in SAM is free and explains that companies previously registered in CCR already have information transferred to SAM. The guide includes important timing information, such as that activating a new EIN with the IRS takes 2-5 weeks, and entity registration becomes active 3-5 days after IRS validates TIN information. Key sections that must be completed include Core Data, Assertions (covering NAICS codes, size metrics, and disaster relief information), Representations and Certifications (including FAR, DFARS, and Architect-Engineer responses), and Points of Contact.

• It takes 1-2 business days to obtain a DUNS.

Your Entity’s Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) You need your entity’s Tax ID Number (TIN) and taxpayer name (as it appears on your last tax return). Foreign entities that do not pay employees within the U.S. do not need to provide a TIN.

• A TIN is an Employer Identification Number (EIN) assigned by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).
