History Of The Physical Education Department at West Point
2nd Floor Hallway Arvin Cadet Physical Development Center United States Military Academy
22 May 2018
COL Herman Koehler Plaque Removal/Relocation Project PR #
Intent The Department of Physical Education desires to move the historical plaque commemorating COL Herman Koehler to a new position on the 2nd floor of the Arvin CPDC.
Phase I – Approved for removal by MHM.
Vendor 1- All County Wall Systems quoted $9,682.25
Vendor 2 – J & C Masonry & Landscaping INC quoted $4,500 plus tax
Vendor 3 – Pending cost estimate quote
Purpose The current position of the plaque, which was placed circa 1923, sees virtually no pedestrian traffic of Cadets, faculty, or staff and is a virtual backwater of Arvin CPDC.
DPE feels that the “Father of the Department of Physical Education” deserves a position of prominence and honor that will be seen and recognized by the USMA community.
Current Position The plaque is currently in the SE corner of Arvin CPDC in what was once the main entryway of the building. Due to building renovation and the current configuration, this area is all but forgotten in terms of foot traffic.
New Koehler Plaque Location: 2nd Floor Main Hallway of Arvin CPDC
N *The COL Koehler plaque will be installed on the East side of the hallway through the double doors of the 2nd floor main hallway of Arvin CPDC.
