About this file
This is a Sale Advertisement issued by the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, Florida Forest Service, for a timber sale on state forest land in Baker County, Florida. The sale involves harvesting timber from approximately 310 acres of 23- to 33-year-old planted slash pine on John M. Bethea State Forest through a fourth-row thinning with logger select methodology. The sale area is divided into four sections: Area One (41 acres), Area Two (95 acres), Area Three (68 acres), and Area Four (106 acres). The harvesting operation will remove every fourth row of trees and select additional trees from remaining rows to achieve a target basal area of 60 square feet per acre, prioritizing the removal of diseased, damaged, defective, forked, and suppressed trees. Additional timber removal will include a 15–20-foot buffer along existing roads. The estimated volumes to be removed are 9,948 tons of pine pulpwood and 5,029 tons of pine chip-and-saw and better. The contract will be awarded for a twelve-month term. Sealed bids will be opened on November 18, 2025, at 10:00 AM EST at 137 Se Forestry Circle, Lake City, Florida 32025. Interested parties may contact Garrett Henderson at (904) 259-2157 for complete bid information.
The forest is SFI Certified (Forest #NSF-SFI-FM-C0245755), and sale boundaries are marked by property boundaries, roads, firelines, or wetlands, with decks and skid trails designated with blue paint. Property boundary trees marked with white bands or property signs are not to be harvested or damaged. The Forester-in-Charge retains authority to adjust the target basal area per acre and/or number of trees per acre as needed due to variations in stand and site conditions. The Florida Forest Service reserves the right to reject any and all bids and to waive any irregularity in bids received. The sale is authorized by Wilton Simpson, Commissioner of Agriculture, with Glenn Davis of the Suwannee Forestry Center serving as the contact at (386) 243-6240.
